Just launched (and not yet fully functional) is a new community resource bringing together different organisations across Swanage and Purbeck. It's administered by the Rotary Club of Swanage and supported by the Purbeck Community Partnership, and all organisations are invited to join (for free).
Why do people think its ok to steal photos to put on their website! All of the ones on the home page have been taken from our websites without permission
ReplyDeleteInteresting when the site has openly stolen copyrighted images on the home page, the article above is about trading standards
ReplyDeleteI would contact them and ask them to remove the copyrighted images, having said that, any other website would face legal action.
ReplyDeleteWatermark your photos if you want to protect them, and place a warning against infringement on your website. It is simple to do.
ReplyDeleteRe Photos - It is often difficult to see hen searching for photos where thet originate. These were used in the genuine belief that they were copyright free. We apologise - now you have identified the source - and have changed them.
ReplyDeleteSwanage Hub.
Re 11:17 PM
ReplyDeleteThe site has copyright information and you do not need to place a visible watermark on your photos to include copyright info. There are other ways to include non visual info about photographs owners and copyright.
Doesn't your content management system let you block right clicks and hence prevent copying to a great extent.
ReplyDeleteRe 1:59 PM
ReplyDeleteBlocking right clicks is a waste of time with modern browsers, you can click and drag an image to your comptuer using the left button so blocking the right button which can be used to open pages in new tabs/windows will only make things difficult for visitors. Also you can just press the print screen key and then paste into your photo editor to copy anything you can see online. If someone wants to steal your information there are plenty of ways they can do it.
5.41 Thanks for the tip!!!

ReplyDeletePoint taken but most people will simply move to another site rather than go through the print screen rigmarole. Copyright is completely unenforceable with websites. I have even had members of the police force cheerfully tell me they would print images from my site and pin them up in the station.

ReplyDeleteWould be interesting if you could tell us all what type of site you run :-D
One with some humorous pictures on it. Don't worry, I am not the Swanage porn king.
