Number 50 Bus (Swanage/Bmth Stations)

What improvements would you like to see in the Wilts and Dorset bus service from Swanage Station to Bournemouth Station?

  1. The bus driver could let people on the bus at Swanage Station before the bus is due to start so the passengers do not have to stand in the rain and the bus leaves on time.
Wilts and Dorset could operate closed top buses as most passengers do not like sitting in the open when it is freezing or raining.
The service should run every half hour.
The bus stops on the route should have a display board saying when the bus is due to arrive and the bus should transmit a radio signal.
The bus shelter at Swanage Station should be longer to protect the passengers from the rain.

  2. The last bus from Swaanage at 18.25 back to Bournemouth can't do much to encourage tourists to saty in the Town's pubs and restaurants.

  3. Every half hour - why? They are not always full and that would be a good way top lose money.

  5. Armchairs for seats
    Complimentary newspapers
Topless female drivers no older than 30 years old and of sufficient attractiveness
    Free trips
Witty bumper stickers on the back of the bus.

Bicycles racks placed on the front or back on bus. Works well on buses in the US. If the last ferry is around 11pm the buses should run till this time aswell.

Health and Safety prevents bike racks front or back on PSV in the UK.

As far as H&S and the 'compensation culture' is concerned, the US sneezed, and the UK caught the flu!

  8. H & S did not stop Mark, who delivers the Gazette, from putting his bike on the number 40 bus. He asked me to help him unload it. Why is it safe to put a bike on a train or on a US bus and not on a bus in Europe? When the Dartford Tunnel opened a London Transport bus took cycles through the tunnel. Bikes on racks on lower deck and passengers on top. The last bus from Swanage is at 18:25 and from Bournemouth at 19:38. I would like to see buses running later as I often travel by train and there is little margin for error when returning.
2nd attempt at proving I am not a robot

The option for a late train is to alight at Poole and catch the 50 service, which runs later.

  10. It is sometimes quicker to travel back by train to Wareham, when the No 50 is running, and go back on the No 40. There is a good connection between the no 50 and the up Cross Country and South West Trains and more trains arrive at Bournemouth than at Poole and Wareham. Returning from a different station makes planning a journey and buying the tickets more difficult. At least you can get back from Wareham every day until 23:29 so thank you for the advice.

  11. Apart from its roundabout route the Bournemouth service is not too bad, The Poole service, however, fails to reflect the changes in retail and entertainment of the last few decades, why, for example does it not run via Tower Park?

because I don't want to sit on the bus for another 20 + mins thats the point of connecting bus services. There is a connection!
