Some action ought to be taken to prevent the overnight parking of motor caravans, other large vehicles used as accommodation, and tents, on the Ferry Road principally at the Shell Bay end. Some of these vehicles are parked for several weeks at a time, and have health and safety implications, as well as being unsightly in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

There is a group of people trying to sort this out - getting the different parties to resolve the matter. The National Trust own the surrounding land, the Ferry Company own the actual road, the land is within Purbeck District Council and Dorset County Council, it's at the entrance to a World Heritage Site, it's a Site of Special Scientifc Interest, it's the beginning of the South Coast Footpath.....You would think someone would have the will to take some action. It must just be that none of the authortities can bothered for some reason.
You would think there were so many reasons to stop the overnight camping -
Health (what do they do with their all their toilet waste? Throw it on the verge for children to step in?),
Safety (with all those barbecues and camping stoves, how long before a fire is started? and what sort of devastation would that cause?)
Planning (do the campers have planning approval to set up home here? Does the Ferry Company have approval to run a camp site here, without any facilities?),
Obstruction (what about access for emergency vehicles, room for people to turn etc)
And I'm sure there are other things too. Funny how the powers seem able to do anything they want, but nothing that the people want...
