Sandbanks Ferry price rise

Ferry nuff - or too much?

If I remember rightly it was 2006 the last time that fares were increased.

They now want to get:

£1 from Peds - 11% rise (return)
£3.50 from Cars - 17% rise (single)
£1 from 2 wheelers - 25% rise (single)

Urrm, 11, 17% rises don´t seem too bad, but 25% for Peds and the far more energy efficient 2 wheelers (pedal and motor) seem bizarre.

What about there Green Credentials?

My place of work, and many others, are staring to penalise car use, but not 2 wheelers.

Funny that efficiency savings do not apply to the private sector. If you factored in say 3% a year over the last 10 or 15 years ferry charges would be coming down not going up.

Seems to me that Swanage citizens who find gainful employment the other side of the ferry are contributing through their rates to the town's overflowing coffers - why can't each ratepayer in Swanage/Studland be issued with a windscreen sticker that will allow them a reduced rate, reimbursed by an increase in parking charges from tourists?

I like that idea! Surely though we don't need to penalise the visitors by increasing parking - the Ferry Company should be more than able to cover the cost?

This must be one of the most profitable monopaly businesses in the country and should be investigated and then windfall taxed if appropriate. That is the way to help subsidise costs for local commuters to Bournemouth - not increasing parking fees which will sound a death knell to tourism and much needed business revenue and local employment.
