More parking restrictions?

I was told today that there are plans to put double yellow lines along townsend road, richmond road, osborne road and manwell road. I havent found anything on Purbeck Councils site about this but has anyone else heard about more parking restrictions?

Also if this is put in place where are all the residents supposed to park?

This would be a DCC not PDC thing...

I'll ask about it at tomorrow's Council meeting (all welcome, 7pm!) if I get a chance.. or at the next Transport meeting on Wednesday evening.

Thanks for the update. I did find something about it on the swanage council site from a meeting last year and a residents parking system was mentioned but nothing about cost.
Dosnt seem very fair that if you cant afford a big house with off road parking you have to pay to park your own car which you pay road tax on, outside your home!

Roads are DCC rather then PDC. Take a look at www.dorsetforyou.com

I have emailed DCC as their website is worse than the Purbeck and Swanage councils ones to find anything. I will post it on here if they get back to me.

It would seem sensible to have one side of these roads with no parking, perhaps alternating from side to side each day to discourage long term parking.

These days sensible town planners are much more relaxed about parking because it stops speeding and stops people ripping out their important front gardens. The HIgh Street is a case in point, people moan about people speeding past the school crossing points but at that point all cars are banned from parking, encouraging idiots to roar up to the Black Swan. There should be more on-street parking (perhaps for residents only) not less.

No, on street parking should be banned. That may but some impetus into getting reasonable public transport. park and ride on the outskirts for everyone in the centre

I've spoken to the Chairman of the Transport Committee on Swanage Town Council. He tells me that there is an ongoing debate to try to resolve some issues of essential access to these roads. But it is not the Town Council's wish to have double yellow lines on these roads. I gather there are discussions in hand with residents to resolve things themselves, and that the best thing is just to let these discussions continue at this stage.

Park and ride? I use my car perhaps once a week but even I think that's draconian.

Swanage needs to take control of parking from DCC, bring in a town-wide free parking permit for residents and make money from tourists via the car parks and a few street meters in sensible places. It's mad that they don't make money from tourists when people expect to pay.

Or a congestion charge might work beginning at Norden roundabout and at the ferry, residents going free.

I live in Richmond Road and no-one has approached us regarding parking resctictions or anyone else in the road who I have asked.

any congestion charge would just discourage visitors

How do you know? People pay £15 to park in Bournemouth for a day

'How do you know? People pay £15 to park in Bournemouth for a day'

This is why people have deserted Bournemouth's shopping for Castlepoint. Do you really think Swanage will prosper if parking charges are increased?

Reported at a recent meeting that there are to be car parking meters along the seafront and no doubt along as many side roads as possible.

I don't remember DCC asking us if we wanted them. What does STC think of this idea. Presumably as its DCC that is responsible for highways,DCC will be pocketting the revenue.

I believe I saw Council minutes where it was agreed to write to DCC saying that STC does not want parking maters on the seafront..

I'm not talking about shoppers, and Castlepoint is a planning disaster.

Tourists expect to pay, especially in season. Many have spent over £3 going on the ferry. How many people park up, have a day on the beach and then drive off without spending anything in the town?

Have you received a reply, that confirms this will not happen. There is still lack of joined up thinking. On the one hand the sustainable communities Act has been passed, where local people are being encouraged to have more say about what happens in their community, and on the other hand DCC tries to impose its unacceptable wishes.
