Can I remind people to be a little more considered and polite on this blog? It seems that are some who are being rude and abusive to others, just because they hold different opinions. In future mindlessly insulting posts and comments will be deleted.
perhaps a proper forum would be better where people have their own usernames when they post, at least then you can follow the thread of the topic without trying to guess who has said what!
ReplyDeleteCompared to times gone by. I thought that things had been reasonably polite in here!
ReplyDeleteIf people want a proper forum, with usernames, Swanage already has one.
Yours, a non-member.
10.56, where is the swanage forum? i could only find a dorset one
ReplyDeleteWhoops,sorry, you're right.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the general reminder. I have been concerned for a little while about some abusive comments in response to opinions freely expressed.
ReplyDeleteYawn, I see the same two people are still trying to stir things up.
ReplyDeleteMike - I presume it is Mike - if this is your blog, could you please lay down your rules for censorship? Many have come to see it as an open forum, but if you choose to decide what is permissible, and what is not, then I think we need some firm guidelines. Many may decide not to participate, and after all there is nothing stopping another blog opening. The fact that you have allowed free speech is what has made this blog so good. Your actions may now kill it.
ReplyDeleteI think your rules, clearly stated, should suffice. I also think that, should you have to censor a post, you explain why. That is your right; but you run the risk of many of us leaving if a view, firmly but correctly stated, is censored upon your whim.
If you feel things are a bit out of hand, then I suggest you only allow posts by registered users, which will give you a chance to control them - if you really have the time or inclination to do so.
I would add that you created the free speech which allowed these comment to happen, so I find it strange that you now want to change it. My feeling is you will lose most posters if you censor us. It is up to you. Think carefully. It is your blog to keep, or lose.
My aim has always been to enable anyone to talk about any topic they want. That doesn't mean people need to be rude or insulting to others just because they disagree with them.

ReplyDeletethis is not sunday school, its the big wide world. I come on here and scrap and bicker but thats the point. Leave it as it is, if you are so sensitive go to the Dorset forum after all they are talking about favourite soft drinks, halloween- 7 weeks early- and "intersting" stuff like that they only have about 5 regular posters. Leave well alone. Pease!
Multi user Mike is at it again :-)
ReplyDelete"Dorset forum after all they are talking about favourite soft drinks, halloween- 7 weeks early- and "intersting" stuff like that they only have about 5 regular posters."
ReplyDeleteThanks for the complement, I would like to add that the Dorset Forum has 96 registered users, all of which have to provide a verified email account. I suspect the reason you don't post yourself is down to the fact that I don't allow Anonymous users?. The Dorset Froum is also backed by a Dorset Network group with over 236 memebers that all post, and a Swanage network group with over 830 members NONE of which are anonymous.
If however you would like to add your own "valuable" comments then please feel free to join up.
Why is it so anodyne then?
ReplyDeleteWell Mr/Miss Anonymous, the forum would appear to be "anodyne" to a non registered user as most of the content is set to private.
ReplyDeleteUnless you take part you can't see it.
Much the same arguments were made against the introduction of the secret ballot for elections in the nineteenth century as are made against anonymous blogging.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why you put the word anodyne in quotes as if it was something I had made up, but never mind. I will stick to posting on a public forum. Why make make some discussions private if it only leaves the air-headed stuff for public consumption? Bewildering.
ReplyDeleteSimple really, I put the word in quotes as you used it.
ReplyDeleteI also think you haven't under stood my point, the forum is a public forum for everyone, but its not for anonymous users.
For a while I did allow anonymous user to post, but sadly they abused the forum and the registered members, so I removed the option.
As for "air-headed stuff" being there for public consumption, well I think it's just general chit-chat and sometimes very funny.
If you don't agree with how the forum is being run I surgest you either don't bother visiting it or maybe go and start you own?
Its not a case of agreeing or not agreeing. I just don't understand why it has this structure. It up to you of course but don't concern yourself, I will keep away.

ReplyDeleteHow many actually post? 6 or 8? a club can have 100's members but few users.
And being blunt, you yourself post some of the most boring rubish about, its childish playground stuff, what soft drink do you like. I know for a fact you like people to use the forum who you know some sort of power trip knowing where they live their proffesion etc, all very creepy.
Anyway if you dont like it in here go away!
And you started that rumour that the police station was actually closed, why post that whena 2 minute phone call could have clarified the situation, or perhaps you are just a spitefull gossip?
The stuff about the police station was really amusing. Apparently someone went round there and looked at the opening times but did not go in and ask whether it is about to close. All reminiscent of the old story of the ancient Greek philosophers who were debating how many teeth a horse has and got really cross when someone suggested finding a horse and counting them.
ReplyDeleteAre they planning an entry in the Swanage Comedy Festival next month?
This is just silly - live and let live.
ReplyDeleteApparently someone went round there and looked at the opening times but did not go in and ask whether it is about to close
ReplyDeleteMy point exactly, I remember when the webmaster posted saying something like when is easter next year, the time it took him to type and post he could have used google to find out, all very bizzare and then he has the nerve to question users of this blog.
And I stick by my point that it is very creepy him wanting to know everything about the posters..
..what's this about "it is very creepy him wanting to know everything about the posters."
ReplyDeleteI do not want to know anything about the posters
lol you have to laugh, I was told that the Swanage Police station was or was due to be closed by a local Lib-Dem councilor last week.
ReplyDeleteAs there's only one Swanage Lib-Dem councillor, I had better answer this! I have never said the Police Station is due to close. What I HAVE said is that I understood the situation might be under review. An important difference. When I know more, I'll be happy to say more.
ReplyDeleteMy apologies Mike, I meant local as in Dorset, not just Swanage.
ReplyDeleteDorset Police Stations are to close???? Thanks for the tip!!
ReplyDeleteDorset Police Stations are to close???? Thanks for the tip!!
ReplyDeleteShould this read 'Dorset Police Stations are to close.'
Thanks for the (recycling) tip !!
you mean the tip tip?
ReplyDeleteI am really disapponted that this topic has had no mention of the glorious fields that we have up in Herston! Just thought I'd mention them in case any of you might have forgotten....
Dont mention the fields....
ReplyDeleteJust to update this thread by saying that one of the active members of the Dorset Forum interviewed the Swanage Police about the rumored possible closure.
ReplyDeleteYou can read it at -
http://thedorsetforum.blogspot.com/
"There are no plans at all to close Swanage Police Station, indeed there are plans to move the Police Station closer to the town centre so that we can
ReplyDeleteprovide a better service to the public. These plans are still in the early stages of discussion but it is my belief that they would benefit the people of
Swanage."
