Has anyone else seen an otter or mink recently? I'm sure I saw one or the other last week (crossing the road near Knoll Beach!). I'm not 100% certain, because although it was more than a metre in length (and mink are, I believe, 50 cms), I gather that otters are rarely active during the day in areas where humans are present. But then the National Trust told me that neither had been seen in the area ....
On the subject of wildlife, I heard a story about a big cat attacking a horse in Studland. Any more on that?

I heard a story as well.
This one was about a person who thought that they saw rare animals and heard bizarre stories.
And didn´t seem to give much credence to the NT.
They were advised to contact Durlston Country Park, who, after they´d finished laughing, said that they´d had no reports either - but forgot to say that otters like streams, as do mink.
Mind you, I´ve seen a few white elephants and flying pigs recently.
Bloody NT and DCP haven´t had any reports of those either.
ignore the ignorance and rudeness of the previous poster. Big cats are known in these parts, even examined the carcass of a deer myself that had been downed by a large animal with a rough tongue as the deer's skin had been licked back to allow access to the flesh, strangely the same technique used by big wild cats.
Interesting book published recently called "roaring dorset" you might find worth a read
Dolphin around recently. This from Durlston Country Park diary

.... not only the small pod of Bottlenose Dolphins that have been around, as earlier in the week ... 20 -25 Common Dolphins fishing near Old Harry Rocks. The sudden appearance of both types of Dolphin may well be linked to the large number of Pollock shoaling in the bays.
