WHAT CHOICE ?
The NHS ‘CHOOSE and BOOK’ is working seriously against Swanage residents.
Those of us who live in Swanage, take great pride in the Swanage Cottage Hospital as a valuable LOCAL facility, donating time, money and effort in supporting it, but this is brought into jeopardy by the NHS ‘Choose & Book’.
I live two minutes from the Hospital but the choice given to me was; Bournemouth, Poole, Dorchester, but against Swanage was “Not available”.
Therefore Swanage Residents are expected to travel a round trip of circa 50 miles, pay through the nose for parking and have to walk along endless corridors.
The reason Swanage appointments are full is because people who live close to the other hospitals prefer a day out in Swanage where they do not have to pay parking etc.

Swanage hospital is window dressing, I have had lots of problems with them.
My advice is to avoid them, also Poole and Bournemouth.
Dorchester seems ok.
Peoples experiences with the NHS are, to me, always amusing.
I've used the NHS a lot in the 60's, 80's and the 00's. Apart from 2 minor incidents I've always found the staff excellent; both of them were dealt with quickly and to my satisfaction.
I can't say that I remember my experiences during the '60's but I'm still here and occasionally bump into Dr Aitken - a lovely guy. During the '80's I had to put up with looooooooong waits, but the treatment was fine. In the 00's, I've no complaints or moans at all about my care and treatment.
My Dad, who's 80, had a major incident about a year ago, the NHS were, and continue to be, absolutely brilliant. He's been in Poole and B'mouth and most of his outpatient stuff is in Dorchester. He was in B'mouth when they were closing wards and operating theatres because of MRSA, there was a slight delay in his treatment - that's life.
Now, RobO, you don't post that often, or put your name to your posts!, but when you do I've always found them intelligent. What you seem to be saying is that people are exercising choice and if they've got to go to an unpleasant experience then they'll add a nice one as well.
Very human, what your actually saying is that, somehow, they get more notice of the need for an appointment, and then park somewhere for free. From personal experience I can tell you that there's loads of free parking around the hospitals. So when I go to Poole I'll park up have my appointment, then wander down through the wonderfully pedestrianised High Street to get some much needed hardware from Boones, B'mouth, well it's a bit off the beaten track, but I can do a major shop on the way home. Dorchester - it might be market day or mebbie I'll just pop into the Sienna restaurant - yum! Christchurch, I went in an Ambulance and home in a taxi!
This LOCAL thing is a bit worrying, we deserve an A&E because of our geographical position. Wareham doesn't get one, but then it's on a main road and a main train line.
The last time that I used Swanage A&E was 03, or 04, and they were superb. I used there 'sit and wait' 2 or 3 years ago - no problems. But I still wonder how those outsiders get so much more warning that they need an appointment!

Mention it to Senior Staff. Complain to the Trust. Use the Ombudsman. Don't post on an anonymous blog.
I'll die and the NHS will be involved, I won't be blaming them!
Oh, and just in case I, my family, and my close acquaintances do not work for the NHS.
Its a bit imaginative to suggest people will fork out ten quid on petrol to come over here to save a couple of pounds on parking or a five minute walk. I suggest it has more to do with the fact that outpatients clinics here are usually conducted by the consultants rather than their juniors and the more savvy patients realise that if they want to see the big noise they need to make the journey to Swanage. They probably grumble about having to come here to see a consultant.

Got shafted at all levels, (not solicitor) its a waste of time.
Some people have good experiences some dont, I have had multiple bad experiences, hey thats life.
Next thing you will be saying is that the local doctors are good.

No but the appt: system is very poor
