Have you wondered if the Echo gives a *** about what goes on in Purbeck? Anyone else noticed that the same article has been headlining the Purbeck online page since 21st March?! Has there really been no news in Purbeck since then?

I stopped paying any attention to the Echo when they ran a story on what a great success the Mowlem was.
Indeed. Just had the Advertiser plop through the door and there's Mr Willey with a big pic of the Mowlem, asking us to support it and that it was a gift to the town.
He really has no idea does he?
If it's a gift, then why do David Bale et al refuse any help or suggestions re programming/funding/equipment? Another example of the trust trying to create good press without listening to their audience.
We went to see The Muppets on a sodden bank holiday Monday (just gone) and the theatre was hardly a quarter full. Most cinemas in towns this size would sell out due to the rain. The Mowlem didn't even look open.
Anyway, sorry for the digression but it's so infuriating to constantly read articles asking us to support our local theatre when they will not enter into any dialogue with us or our groups (50/50, Rockahula, other local groups etc).
A gift to the Town?? Which group was it gifted to.
The trustees admitted they have gaps in their expertise,ie IT skills/creative people. Last year 60 odd people attended the friends meeting and the offers of help from those attending were not taken up. All attending were supportive of the friends. Nothing has moved on !!
Meanwhile, reverting to the Echo, I think its fair to say that although a grasp of journalistic cliche is essential for editorial stall a knowledge of geography is not required. Purbeck stories turn up in all sorts of other sections. Yesterday a Purbeck story was on the news page but not the Purbeck page. Since there is nothing to stop it being in two places at the same time there is no reason for this other than ignorance. Most of Poole Harbour and many of the islands are in Purbeck but stories about these are always on the Poole pages. Perhaps we should club together and buy them a map.
It only sells,at the last official count,241 copies in the Swanage area. One for every twenty five households. On those figures it would be a surprise if there was any meaningful coverage of the town and what goes on here. The pity is there's no competition or any real replacement for the role the local press once performed.
The Advertiser is published by the same people as the Echo. This week there were three letters in Postbag all of which have already appeared in the Echo and have got nothing to do with Purbeck yet the Gazette has got 32 letters about Purbeck. It looks like the Advertiser and the Echo have completely lost interest in the readers and contributers from Purbeck.

Hey but today (11 April) Echo have run a new story ...Monkey World
Unless a monkey in a tank chases a dog off a cliff, it won't get in the Echo.
Is The Muppets any good?
Can't tell. Never been into a Mowlem Trust Meeting.
