As the fag-end of another year sinks into the soon to be illegal ash-tray of Orwellian fantasy: what can we say about 2006?

Monty Panesar wins Beard of the Year.
Mark Ramprakash wins Strictly Come Dancing.
S Yorks Police have just prosecuted themselves for speeding.

I can’t believe the level of apathy locally. What's being done to get the Waverley back? What went on to make those local councillors resign so suddenly like falling dominoes? Why hasn't the community partnership achieved anything, and what was the point if the local and district authorities have already made up their minds?

Apropos of David Hammersley's posting I can't help thinking that the fact he asks these questions is symptomatic of the apathy he complains about. Why has he not done some research and told us the answer to these questions? He could start by searching the archives of this blog.

As a new year begins I think that we the people of Swanage should turn a new leaf.

We will become motivated, we community minded people will storm the Town Hall and elect ourselves.

Mike can stay.

Then we'll take on PDC, and resite them to Swanage, County will soon follow.

What, what, oh sorry, yeah time for the cricket.

OK, I feel humorous.

Things we English pwople are good at -

growing beards.
dancing - although I dispute that - you should've seen some of last night performances - mebbie you did.
our Police making ar3e5 of themselves.
not accepting change.
moaning.
being right - no matter what the evidence is.
And finally, our leaders call it being; an accepting/understanding people, but actually it's apathy.

I was out walking the dog - which is very small and muzzled - when I saw a boat in the bay.
It had a Romanian registration and the staff - about a hundred - were rowing ashore.
What a lovely sight.
