Did you get Planning Permision to do that!

It's temporary, in case your question was not tongue-in-cheek. Full details of the work being done by Antonia Philips and Nina Camplin during Purbeck Art Week are at:
http://www.purbeckartweek.co.uk/core/pierhead_mural.html
Soz but you will need to cut and paste this address into your browser.

My tongue was firmly in my cheek and as I didn't know about the mural I'm now putting my foot in my mouth, which aint easy while typing.

As the mural was going to be 'Trompe-l'œil', is this just a very clever con!

Is that guy walking past real or part of the painting?

I like it ! any suggestions for making other Swanage eyesores more interesting to look at ? ie the land -facing front (or is it the back) of the Mowlem ?

Antonia and I are available for commissions if the owners of other eyesores in Swanage would like them to be tarted up, even if it is only on a temporary basis!
You can view more of our work on our own websites:

Nature imitating Art?

Well, i have to say it looks much better with the murals now than it has done for the past 6 years.
Swanage council claim that no planning applications have reached the standard that they require....right oh, so its better to let the building fall into rack and ruin for the sake of a few snobby, white middleclass jobsworth councilors than allow development of the pierhead into something that would be worthwhile and create jobs.

what utter tosh.....it's okay to allow second homes to be brought in swangae and allowing them to sit empty for at least 6 months of the year at the expense of the public that they are voted in to help, perhaps a pertition from the people of Swanage calling for an independant review of the planning applications that have been turned down is required...it is obvious to me that the councilors need to be challenged on their "not in my backgarden" attitude....these type of councilors really make me sick, bet they don't even live within the vicinity of the town centre!!!!!

Keep up the good work girls, and perhaps just randomly murilise other eyesores as planning permission is not needed to paint a wall.do it at night!!!!

Well said anonymous, i live in Swanage and have to say it has looked awful for a long time, but our councilors dont do anything for the people of swanage just for the tourists, hence the second homes scandel.

In fact i am now going to start a web based protest at the backhanders they obviously receive...be warned.........

No second home in swanage.

methinks that the council are going to let it fall into such a state of disrepair, so they can then sell it to property developers fopr more holiday homes to boost the coffers in the short term with no social housing , thus raising the prices of the properties around here higher than they are, so none of us can afford to remain here and then they would just have to bother thinking and working for 6 months of the year when the scavengers descend every holiday season.

We have rights, we need affordable homes, we need local jobs, what are you playing at?????????????

Opps corrupto man may have hit the nail on the head, under the freedon of information act i request that the details and minutes of all planning meetings be made public...........

by the way this consistutes a legal request because it is in writing and a councilor started this blog, therefore you have 10 days in which to respond.please check with your legal department.

By the way, the Swanage Town Council has recommended approval of the plans the last couple of times the application has come before it. But it was turned down by Purbeck District Council.

Somebody said "under the freedon of information act i request that the details and minutes of all planning meetings be made public..........."

before you get too angry, minutes are public. You can see Town Council minutes at the Library and at the Town Hall (and on the website, though that is currently being overhauled). I imagine the PDC minutes are all available at Worgret House (and perhaps online too, but I couldn't find them just now). But full details of all planning applications can be seen at http://www.purbeck.gov.uk/planning/planappsrch.asp
