Boiler scrappage scheme

Want to register for the boiler scrappage scheme and get £400 towards cost of a new, energy-efficient, boiler?

To confirm that your home has a G-rated (or equivalent) boiler,  call ACT ON CO2 advice line on 0800 512 012  or check out:

http://www.governmentboiler-scrappagescheme.info/EligibilityCheck.php

This will take you through a process to confirm the eligibility of your current boiler. Once you have determined that your boiler is eligible, you will need to obtain a quotation from an installer and register on the EST website that is accessible at the end of the eligibility check. You should then be able to receive a £400 cashback voucher towards the cost of your upgrade.
  1. If you are a householder (including tenants) and under 60 you can only apply for the scheme if the boiler you are scrapping is in working order and is the main boiler used to heat the home.
  2. If you are a householder (including tenants) and 60 or over you can apply for the scheme regardless of whether the boiler you are scrapping is in working order. However, it still needs to be the main boiler used to heat the home, and must still be connected to the wet heating system.
Only householders and landlords who own and privately let dwellings are eligible to apply for a voucher.

This new initiative appears to be a step in the right direction. British manufacturing of the main boiler components is good use of public financial support.

Now let's try and come up with some more useful ways to give jobs to the unemployed, maybe some components could be manufactured in a vacant unit in Swanage. Unskilled/semi-skilled workers taken off the benefits system, or even partially, (Working family tax Credits etc.) would be a bonus? It would change the mindset of some considering themselves hopelessly unemployable just because they live off the beaten track a bit!

So boilers are made in Britain? lots of the components are made abroad, or do you considerthe EU Britain?

I can only assume that British made boliler components, creating and securing British jobs is aided by this measure?

“Today’s announcement will slash household energy bills and carbon emissions while providing an important boost for the British heating industry. The Government’s new scrappage scheme will help to secure 250,000 jobs across the tens of thousands of small and medium businesses involved in boiler manufacture, sales and installation that form a vital component of Britain’s low carbon economy. The scheme shows how this Government continues to invest in the British industries and jobs of the future.”

Why doesn't someone or some body of Councillors press Jim Knight to check on whether further jobs will be created that could be 'farmed out' to backwaters like Swanage? Why can't they all do something positive for this area, they all take the money?

The new wind farm strategy will create local jobs in Dorset/Hampshire with regards to the Isle Of Wight site, we are told?
