Election debate

Did anyone else go to the Swanage Senior Forum at the Middle School on 17/05/10? The UKIP candidate was certainly entertaining in his efforts to obtain an equal platform with the other candidates!

"I agree with Nick"

So do I, so do more and more people it seems !

Nick now needs to overcome the strange jibes of the Tory Press (should be easy !) and then out perform Brown and Cameron at the next 2 debates (should be easy too !!). Perhaps we will then have some real change that benefits us rather than the politicians - scrapping tridents replacement (saving £s), negotiating our way out of Afghan (saving more £s) and improving most peoples tax position. All sounds very good or are we being conned again ? How can you tell??

Just picking on one!

"...supports lax bank regulations EU trougher modest pebbles dashed home, ..."

I think you're making as much sense as our esteemed politicians!

As rants go that was one of the better ones. Translations on a postcard please, by voting day.

Er.....what...? Must be our local Tory candidate.

The rant I had in mind was the stuff about "trougher modest pebbles dash home."

Could be some form of poetry although its more likely the author was "tired and emotional."

Has Cameron snatched defeat from the jaws of victory? Is his party headed for oblivion when we have proportional representation? Fascinating stuff.

I have always voted for one party. I will be voteing for Cleg this time. I want a change, a real change.

I can't help thinking the old anarchist slogan applies more than ever.

"Don't vote - it only encourages them".

I have a suggestion.

Let's allow an option to the vote:

'None of the above'

I reckon that if voting were compulsory, and 'none of the above' were allowed as a choice, then 'NOTA' could well win the next election. leaving the country to be run by the runner up. A humbling position to be in.

I do find it strange that so many people got so irate because MPs had a cushy expenses system that enabled some of them to take in a year what a premier league footballer picks up in an afternoon for nothing more than kicking a ball round a field.

When making comparisons, please do compare like with like.

As least footballers bring those of us who are supporters, some pleasure ! dont remember any MP's ever doing that.

Oh, I don't know, I seem to remember being amused when the young Mellor laddie played for Chelsea!

The duck house business was very amusing. Theres lets of entertainment value in politicians although theres a large element of schadenfreude in it. Major's government was the source of endless amusement, going back a bit more MacMillan had that bed-jumping defence minister, Wilson his MI5 phobia,

Looking at the expenses scandal though, the biggest lesson is that we have become increasingly susceptible to moral panics.
