Putlake Farm

Alfie up at the Putlake Farm has had terrible problems with car parking. Apparently the planners don't want people to park in the field to buy local produce and entertain the kids. Does anyone know if St Mary's, the parish church, has planning permission to allow folk to park on the grass in the church yard?

Probably the same outsiders who complained about the noisey animals up at the farm, now let me think how long has there been a farm at puck lake? 10 yrs no 100 yrs no a bit longer than that.

This sounds like Planning gone mad. The farm and the Church must abide by the same rules and if the Church has managed to get permission why not the farm? It is just as great an amenity for locals and visitors and always provides a warm welcome.

In my experience it's not the parking per se, it's the traffic control.

Even with loads of cars parked on the pavement/road there is room for the ESB (Emergency services and the bus) to get thru', but someone trying to down the hill as someone is trying to get up - and it's hell.

Temporary traffic lights!

Shuttle bus!

And also don't forget the Purbeck Produce market has moved to the Middle School - 2nd and 4th Sat of the month.

The problem is that some years ago when PDC gave planning permission for it to become an adventure farm the application only allowed for parking for about 20 cars. Obviously not enough for anyone to run it successfully as a business. In my opinion they need to recognise this fact and allow parking in the field, otherwise Langton is likely to lose a good local facility, the pet and garden centre, and a local employer.

Currently, the only alternative is for visitors to park in the road, as they frequently do for The Ship, apparently without any complaints, and for the church for funerals and weddings, again apparently without any complaints. Many residents of the high street also park in the road, despite having private garages at the rear.Others block the pavement by parking on that.So it's certainly not just putlake that is causing congestion - far from it.

Shame Purbeck Produce moved. Are they doing any better at the middle school?

Traffic congestion = traffic calming without all the humps and bumps. No to double yellow lines everywhere.

The latest rumour re Putlake is that its going to be a campsite, but Alfie a while ago said it was going to be a riding stables, so who knows what it will be. Alfie must be every planning officers nightmare ! If he asks for permission they say no, and if he doesn't ask it's wrong too. Alfie and family are hard workers and need to make a living. He says that he cannot stand still whilst planning takes months and months to come to a decision, if the farm (as it is) doesn't make a living then he has to be creative and think of another way. Is it a case of Alfie/planning not working together. Has it got to be this way?
