Rainbow Kebab Licence extension
The two police officers on duty for Purbeck over night, if they come to Swanage and were to arrest one of the hundreds of riotous drunks the nearest custody suites are either Poole or Dorchester thereby taking up half their shift processing them ‘within their Human Rights’, (what of the Rights of Swanage Council Tax payers and residents ?) Why not have ‘holding suites/cells’ at Swanage Police Station, (if it is still there) and transport them in bulk to Poole for processing, or better still don’t grant anymore alcohol licenses or renew existing ones.
Swanage Resident.
If you agree then post a comment or better still write with your complaint to:-

Swanage Pier job (evenings)
5PM ~ 9PM
VARIOUS DAYS AVAILABLE TO SUIT YOU
Swanage Pier is a magical place to be on a summers evening and we would love to be able to keep the pier and the shop open for longer during the warmer months'. But at the moment we don't have enough volunteers to make this possible. We need more help and would love to hear from anyone who would like to spend a couple of hours on a summers evening chatting to customers, helping to serve simple refreshments or perhaps standing on the gate taking the evening toll fees. To get involved please phone our lovely shop Manager Kathy on 01929 425806
Or call into the shop for a chat with one of our friendly volunteers
Or you can find out more by visiting www.swanagepier.com
or send me an email office@swanagepiertrust.com

The Red Orb Sculpture Exhibition 30 Aug- 5 Sept
The Red Orb Exhibition' - Raising the profile of three dimensional art to a new level!
10 Purbeck Sculptors, 9 invited sculptors, 5 selected sculptors, all with one aim in common:-
A unique collaboration, exclusively showcasing an eclectic mix of contemporary sculpture, from some of the South's most accomplished three-dimensional artists, working in a diverse variety of mediums and styles, from willow to wire, and from the classical to the contentious!
Featuring work from Andrew Thomas, Marzia Colonna ARBS, Jonathan Sells, Greta Berlin, Robert Mileham, Vivien Mallock ARBS, Scott Taylor, Richard Atkinson-Willes, Moira Purver ASWA, Emma Pickering, Martin Debenham, Carlotta Barrow, Chris Burke, Robin Beuscher, Sue Lansbury, Kim Creswell, Jo Burchell, and Jamie Hart. It will be a totally new experience for Purbeck, as an exhibition of this kind has never previously been organised in this area before.
Curator Andrew Thomas said:
“This is such a tremendous achievement for all that are involved.” “Purbeck is traditionally known for its landscape artists, but we really want to change people's perspective of what is happening here.” “There is definitely an emerging cultural art scene that will rival anything in the U.K. which is hugely positive for us.” We hope that with enough support, the Red Orb Exhibition will be an annual event.” “Leeson House is also such a unique venue, I think everyone who visits will be surprised and inspired.”
The Red Orb Sculpture Exhibition runs from Tuesday 30th August - to Monday 5th September 2011.daily from 10am - 5pm

Comedy Festival 22 - 24 Sept
The next Comedy Festival runs from September 22nd to 24th. The show will consist of Edinburgh Fringe Style performances on Friday 23rd September with an evening of ‘Open Mic Comedy' running in pubs in the area on Thursday 22nd September including the Bankes Arms at Corfe Castle. Performing for the first time in Swanage will be TV illusionist Ali Cook, recently seen on the new ITV Show hosted by Jonathan Ross and Penn and Teller. Also appearing on the Mowlem bill will be the highly entertaining Andrew Bird, who brings to Swanage his 'Village Fete' a one man show about village life and all it's quirks.
Harman’s Cross Village Hall offers an inclusive ticket with return train travel from Swanage or Corfe on the ‘Comedy Express’. Included in the line up is Englishman Al Barrie, Irishman Mike Smiley, perhaps best known as 'Tyres from the cult hit series “Spaced.” and Scotsman Alan Francis, TV scriptwriter, who has also picked up Channel 4's 'So You think Your Funny Award.'
