Dog airlifted to safety
A dog had to be winched to safety by coastguards after becoming stranded at the bottom of a cliff in Dorset.A 999 call was made after a female Jack Russell, called Xena, became separated from its owner on Thursday. Portland Coastguard scrambled its helicopter to a quarry near Winspit on the Purbeck coast after initial reports that a person was also trapped.The dog was found with minor injuries and airlifted to safety. It was later reunited with its owner. No persons were found to be in danger, the coastguard added.
