Health Centre & Hospital

HEALTH CENTRE AND HOSPITAL - A STATEMENT OF INTENT MAY AVOID ALL THE RUMOURS ABOUND

SOMEONE MUST KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING !

"I know several people connected to the Health Centre who categorically state the health centre is no longer adequate for the needs of Swanage."

There seem to be a few people "in the know" about the health centre. However, the Town Council, Purbeck District Council Planning Department and the Friends of the Medical Practice are not, unfortunately, among them! Perhaps, as has been suggested in previous posts, the medical centre should come out and lay their cards on the table?

I'm sorry if I'm about to seem offensive, that's not my intention.

If you live in Swanage, or even Purbeck, then you must have heard that PDC has asked land owners to put forward possible sites for housing development.

4 decent sized plots have been suggested, all will involve some Section 106 type community development. Swanage Surgery - oh I am so out of date! - have said that the current surgery is not meeting our needs and they'd like a new one.

Of those 4 sites it seems that 2 have already been discounted.

So, what you're asking for is a statement that'd read something like this:

When the development at the old Grammar School or Herston Fields site is begun, sometime in the next, 2, or 5, or 10 years then it is possible that we and the Hospital and the Ambo station will move onto one or other, or maybe both of these sites.

If only one gets planning permission then we may have to rethink, if neither get pp, then we're shafted.

However, many things may change over the next few years, and all of the above may happen, or something completely different may occur.

As I said that's not meant to be offensive. You're asking for a statement that could contain no facts, cuz at the moment there aren't any.

I 'spose the statement could read

We are currently hoping to redevelop our service provision and are searching for suitable sites.

Does that help?

Why don't you ask the management of the health centre and report their response on here rather than asking other people who also don't know.

Why not read my response to the original post?

someone must know---

regardless of whether anybody knows or not, isnt this a silly idea to put the health centre out in the middle of nowhere. this will mean that everybody will have to drive there as against now, where many people can pop in as part of their shopping trip.and many people who dont have cars will not be able to get there except by expensive taxi!!

In the middle of nowhere?

The densest areas of population in Swanage are Herston and New Swanage.

The easiest 'drive' is the Avenue and Northbrook Rd.

The Ambo's will have better access to most of Swanage, all if the High Street was reversed from Court Hill to Queens Rd.

And we'd all, in theory, get better medical facilities; but it means CHANGE.

Well said, lets embrace the change. Also a good place if all those new houses are built....

Every one must have enough knowledge for the things in the health care. Hence they can better take of them.

The Doctors speak....

Perhaps if the doctors opened at 0800, didn't close for lunch, and closed at 1900, and opened on Saturday mornings, they would serve the community better.

This would allow those of us who work to visit them out of work hours (good for productivity, and therefore good for business and the economy), and they would aslo be able to spread their load, and get around their problems that way.

Maybe thats just stupid though...

Post at 10.43pm states 'Why not read my response to the original post?'

The obvious response to that is therefore hello Mr Phil Dowding!

Or is it?

You are suggesting an impossible workload. Your hours would entail each doctor spend upward of 60 hours a week in direct contact time with patients. You leave no time for all the other duties they perform behind the scenes. Of course hiring more doctors would be an answer if the practice wanted to do that, but then patients would have less of a chance of finding 'their' gp on duty when they pop in.

Yes, it would probably require more doctors (and other staff too).
A medical practice is not a lot different to a commercial airliner. Commercial airliners (regardless of size) only do their job and earn money when they are in the air. A doctors surgery when it is closed serves nobody, and that doesn't matter if its a big practice in Herston or a small practice in the Town centre...

I did and the HC have now reported to PDC planning dept. Letter is now in the public domain for all to see.

This post is looking very informative. The key point of this post is its valuable information. After reading this post any one will get some very important points which are only helpful even precious also. I use to visit the post of many different kinds but it is the first time when I am fully satisfied. Now a days people are in to the habit of making posts. I think it would be a good inspiration for them.

The Town Council meeting on 4th October will start at 6.30pm rather than 7pm. This is to provide ample time for the presentation on behalf of the doctors and questions/comments by residents on the proposal to move the Health Centre.
