Swanage Seafront Stabilisation and Regeneration Project
The last exhibition is on: Monday 6th September, 3pm to 7pm, in the Swanage Tourism Partnership Room at Swanage Town Hall (I think this is the room accessed by the back door of the Town Hall).

It is time to be radical and brave to regenerate the town.
The recreation ground and gardens should sweep down to a pedestrianised seafront with all traffic diverted away from the area apart from emergency access vehicles, essential deliveries, cleansing etc.
There should be park and ride facilities to reduce traffic levels along residential roads. Have a look at how other resorts have minimised traffic levels along the beach side eg:Bournemouth, Eastbourne. This is our chance to bring new vitality to Swanage, new business, more visitors and provide a more pleasant and relaxed area for everyone.
Of course there will be opposition on cost grounds,fear of increased traffic levels elsewhere etc but lets consider that Swanage needs tourism as its bread and butter. We need to up our game and increase the attractiveness of the town.
...but don't forget to give your comments at the Exhibition, where you can be sure they will be recorded and listened to...

seems to have already decided this would be too expensive "in the current climate".
Although closing the seafront to traffic completely is the most attractive option it is worrying that this would create the possibility of various tacky commercial developments hinted at in the pdc consultation document. More opportunities for things like the "family entertainment" establishment on rec perhaps? It is vital that if the road is closed it remains public open space.

Come on 9.23 what's wrong with some crazy golf, some swing boats and trampolines? If the area makes money then it can be permanently staffed to reduce anti social behavior.
Else it may end up never used like the tennis courts.
I was thinking of the substantial wooden building on the rec. The one at the top of the steps that appeared a few years ago without debate or consultation over whether it was appropriate to put it on an open space. The open air activities are fine but it the amusement machines indoors that make the money.
