Get skates on to support rink at the carnival
By Andy Davey
SPONSORS will need to get their skates on if they want to help a Purbeck carnival bring an artificial ice rink to Swanage next summer.Swanage Regatta and Carnival has already raised £1,355 for the rink, which is covered in a kind of plastic ice that will not melt in the July heat. But sponsors have until November 30 to help the group reach its target of £5,700 so it can hire the 35ft square temporary rink for carnival week.

Ice rink??? Swanage is already full Carnival Week. Have an ice rink near the station at Christmas for goodness sake!
I wanted to make some smartars$d comment about slippery slopes, but don't think I'll bother.
I go along with the suggestion of having a skating rink at christmas but why not make it part of a winter happening of some sort. Theres no point in adding to the mid summer activities when the place is already full. A decent sized event in early december would be worth supporting. Why not hire a snow making machine and have a tobbogan run on the downs.
