Speed cameras

Figures are, I understand, available on how much it costs to maintain speed cameras in Dorset and how much revenue each one produces. These cameras and the mobile ones are run by a so-called partnership quango. The other day when I was driving north and pulling out on to the main road near the pub at Almber on the A30 there was one of this safety partnership's vans to my left, quite effectively blocking my view of traffic coming from the Bere Regis direction, at a time of poor visibility, at what is a difficult junction at the best of times. Safety? Surely not. Profit-driven taxing quango, yes.

say this:

The police are one of eight partners within the Partnership. All money claimed back from speeding fines goes to The Lord Chancellor’s department. The Partnership can then claim back the agreed operational costs of the yearly operational case. The Partnership scheme has the sole aim to reduce road casualties and make the quality of life in Dorset better through reduced speeds.

If you want accounts, then:

Your point about safety is well taken.

I only encounter them along the road from the ferry into Poole - what's it called. There are no safety issues along there.

The Road Death figures were in a pdf and I couldn't copy them, but around about 40 people a year die on Dorsets roads, If that doesn't sound like many, just imagine a room with 40 people in it.

The problem with the speed limits that the cameras are enforcing is that so many appear to be fairly arbitrary.

I'm not sure that I understand.
Arbitrary?
I may not agree with them, but I see the logic.
