Travel for Child fare until you are 19 - all day, every day
We know that 14 is too young to be hit with adult fares and do you hate the 9 o’clock rule? Dorset residents can see this on the front page of today’s Bournemouth Daily Echo or read it on their website[ http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/districts/purbeck/ ]
Well from Saturday 13th February we are changing the rules for bus fares for young people.
* Adult fares will only kick in on your 19th birthday.
* Accompanied children up to the age of 7 will go free.
* The dreaded 9 o’clock will be scrapped. Young peoples’ fares will be available at all times. The only exceptions are Nightbuses in Bournemouth and some college routes, where the college tell us what to charge.
* For families travelling together we are coming up with some great group deals. More to follow soon.

Seems all positive, but IMHO children should not be out riding the buses after 9.00 p.m. without parents. It just seems wrong on all levels. Why encourage a dangerous practice by reducing fares?
I have taken the 10.45 from Poole to Swanage on many a Friday night and have been horrified by the drunken teens and pre-teens coming home from Poole, as well as the rowdy yobs who get on at Wareham. I am not offended by them but I am concerned for their safety.
I shouldn't worry too much, 8.06 PM - obviously their parents don't give a damn!
Not 9pm, but 9.00 AM

...Wilts & Dorset does not allow child fares to be issued before 9am Monday to Friday, except in August when schools are closed.
The policy has been criticised by parents who have accused bosses of cashing in on children at times when they have no choice but to use the buses.
Sorry, Postman, I wasn't wearing my reading glasses!
However, irrespective of the timing issue, and while a bit off-topic, the comments I raised at 8.06 remain valid. Too many under 16s - some appear to be under 13 - are riding the buses after 9 - 10 - 11 p.m. in an unfit and unsupervised state, especially on Friday nights. Many are inebriated. A trip to Poole = no parents - hence 'Let's get pissed'!! Where are the parents????? 'Nuff said!
