Volunteer of the Year?
I learned at yesterday's Council meeting that PDC wishes to recognise a Volunteer of the Year, for each parish in the district. I suggested that this should be made widely known, to attract nominations from the community... but apparently there is only a week or so before the deadline. Although I've asked for wider publicity next year, for the moment, if you have any proposals, please publish them here and I shall make sure they are passed on. Or if you prefer to do this less publicly, send to me at mailATmikehadleyDOTnet

A difficult one this.
Hard to single out one person, especially when in Swanage, besides the volunteer fire crew, we have volunteer Coastguards and Lifeboat Crew who can be called out to dangerous rescues at any time of the day or night. Though it has to be said these noble people do receive public recognition for their efforts and some might say they gain some kudos and glamour.
How does one quantify whose efforts or personal inconvenience or sacrifice are the most significant? Whose efforts have brought the biggest rewards and benefits? Who has done most for least gain for themselves? Whose labours and commitment have gone largely without public notice? The most deserving could be amongst those with the lowest public profile.
Can anyone suggest individuals?
Very difficult indeed. There are so many.
If the voluntary organisations you mention already have their own form of recognition, could I suggest that nominations go to an individual outside these bodies who has done something truly beneficial within the community?
It might be worth asking other parishes what criteria they are using. PDC has waited a bit late to announce this, haven't they??
Mr Alan Leeson? For 'efficient'services to the people of Swanage
I think 1104 was having a jolly jape,SOH failure for you 1050

By the way, sentences end with full stops.
