Everyone seems to have a view about what's right and wrong about the town, but when a meeting is arranged to discuss its future: its economy, survival and future direction, where are they? Today's conference covered an interesting range of subjects, broadly based around two core issues: the rising cost of transport and associated issues of people travelling from Swanage for work or tourists visiting Swanage; and the need to recognise the opportunities that the Olympics, especially the Sailing events at Weymouth in 2012 (and the dress rehearsal in 2010), present as a catalyst for improvement. There were presentations and discussions about recruitment, training, improving skills, offering quality local products and service, benefiting from the Jurassic Coast profile, networking with others, learning and supporting each other.Quite interesting for the 30-odd people who were there (half-a-dozen of whom were presenters/organisers).Hey Ho. Last one out turn off the lights.

The low attendance was partly because most of the people who should have been there were at work. Could we have an evening meeting please.

I only posted this notice after I learned that only a handful of businesses were to attend, despite being visited personally and being sent emails and leaflets.. But perhaps I'm wrong to grumble. After all, it's up to businesses to do what they want with their own business. Just seems a missed opportunity to me. Shame the Advertiser refused to run the story, too.
