Comments

Do you think people should be able to post anonymously? Myself, I would rather have people making comments than feeling it's too much hassle. But on the other hand, it would be interesting to know if particular individuals, using whatver name/s, are making posts.

As far as I can see the only way to do this seems to be to require people to be 'registered users', in which case visitors will be prompted to log into Blogger before leaving a comment. If they don't have an account, they can create one.

Of course, people could use any name they like, not necessarily their real one, but at least we might know which names are posting comments.

What do you think? Should we try this?

I think a post has more merit if a name is too it and personally I would respect that person aswell not just for his/her views. I mean you would not go out wearing a balaclava to the pub and talk to folk. Don't think you would get much respect and no one would really listen to you. And why should it be a hassle anyway?

Oh and happy new year too you Mr Postman.

Well said.... David furnace.

Posting your name adds credibility. It's also means you are accountable for your actions.

I am certain this forum would be better, with less trolling and nonsense if you had to put your name to your comments.

No names sorry was subject to physical attack when posting on other forums.... so if you want real names its goodbye from me.

Some people are fine with putting their real name others are just arrogant and dont care. perhaps putting your previous time of posting may help. Or....... we could all register as Dave Furmage :)

I don't think it necessarily matters if people use their own names or not, but at least there would be some sense of which people are commenting on what, under whatever name they choose, their own or a nom de plume.

But why post under someone elses name? I am confused at to why someone would do this. Or I might think that's the kind of silly behaviour I would expect from some people in swanage. Shame really as we all live in this town. :(

I have taken a middle ground; I use a nom de plume which means I can engage in dialogue or debate without becoming too 'personal'.

Rather than require identity here, somebody could start a Facebook Swanageview which would allow only registered users to post.

Any good?

Post Master would you use your real name or continue under Post Master or something like Admin or Moderator?

Thing is with facebook pages they are great and all that and you certainly can gets some awesome bargains from the swanage sale page:) , though this site brings out issues that really matter to our town and everyone has a good and honest debate about these issues , ok sometimes we don't all agree on some views , but you still have a opinion. And how dare anyone subject phiysical violence to anyone who expresses those opinions is beyond me. For crying out loud , we all live in this town , we probably walk past each other and say hello , who knows? I probably know you name , we probably went to school together , we probably have worked in the same place , we probably drink in the same pubs , we probably have kids who all go to the same school . Seems like we know each other in the real world , so why feel unsecure behind a screen?

Putting my name under a letter in my employer's magazine resulted in me loosing my performance related bonus for three years and being sent to Coventry for two years. In Swanage my employer told me that writing letters to the Advertiser was not compatable with my employment. Putting my views has virtually caused me to be ostrasized from a local club. I am not going to be intimidated. If I have got a view which is not defamatory, racist or untrue and can be sustantiated I am going to write it and sign it. Voltaire said that he may disagree with what someone has said but he will defend his right to say it.

Wearing a balaclava implies one is a bank robber, wearing a hood, a 'hoodie'. Therefore when I'm typing a post to the Blog I wear a berka to be 'Anonymous'.

This is a very active Blog Site so I suggest that for a month or two all blogs have an identity, not necessarily their name, but a/their pseudonym (nick or chosen name). Then in a couple of months time the Postmaster organises a venue, (Mowlem/ConClub/Pub) for a competition. Say; ‘ID the Blogger’ where the panel have to put the name to the person. If they get it right the Blogger pays a small amount into the kitty, if the panel loose then they pay.
The proceeds go to a Swanage cause.

Maybe all of the "Anonymous said..." comment are the same person ?

Using names rather than anon would be helpful when reading popular posts - or maybe they wouldn't be popular if anon wasn't allowed?

Could we all post as "Not David Furmage" or possibly as other members of clan Furmage.

Afraid not as you have not got the proper handshake and you are not invited , as the old dance tune in the 90's says " your names not down , you anit coming in " ;)
