The Unfettered immigration of Foreigners into Britain.

On another thread this subject has been responsible for some heated and conflicting views. Let us bring it out into the open.

It is my considered opinion that this influx of peoples from foreign lands. (Any foreign land) should stop. Immediately. Those that come here illegally, should be returned post haste.

Those that have settled here again illegally, no matter the period of time, should also be repatriated. Immediately.
All criminals in our prisons should be deported, or stay in prison.

Before any one starts yelling Racist! This is the policy of the two main political parties.

Life should be BACKWARDS
The life cycle is all backwards, you should die first, you know start out dead,
get it out of the way. So, you wake up in a hospice, then get moved
to an old peoples home, feeling better every day.
You get kicked out for being too healthy, go collect your pension,
then, when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day.
You work 40 years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement.
You drink alcohol, you party, you're generally promiscuous
(hey, you've only got a few years left, what's the big deal?!?),
and you get ready for High School. You go to primary school, you become a kid, you
play, you have no responsibilities, you become a baby, then,
you spend your last 9 months floating peacefully with luxuries like central heating,
spa, room service on tap, larger quarters everyday, and then you finish off as an orgasm!

the good point about living backwards is when you wake up with a smile on your face!

Today's Youth.
We must have been doing something right since the end of the war.

Why? Have any of you elders looked at the size of the older school children today, compared with your childhood?

While giving a lecture to senior students at a large school on Poole, I met and made friends with the schools head of humanities.

It was through her, that I learned of the strides forward in education. And, how in that relatively short time, school children have quite remarkedly evolved and growm taller.

Do the inhabitants of Swanage View, think that the Swanage schools have kept up with advances elsewhere?
I most certainly do.

If nothing else, Swanage has had its fair share of Characters.

My earliest memory of one of those characters, was Mr Streeter. He lived just above the Langton post office, circa 1935/6. His main claim to eccentricity, was that he walked everywhere wrapped in a large union jack. I do recall that the local village housewives made a dinner up for him at times. (Typical village look after each other)
Can anyone shed any light on Mt Streeter? Or come to that, any of the other eccentrics that brightened our lives here in Swanage?

Being a foodie! With a figure to match. A connoisseur of good food beautifully cooked and presented.

What and where, are the best recommended restaurants in a radius of say- 20 miles?

A couple of weeks ago on this site, it was suggested that Councillor Michael Hadley was paying about £130 a year to the Town Council to rent a permanent beach site at Peveril. I was sure this wasn't correct as I understand that rents for huts on the main beach are about £260 for only a few months use. checking the site today , expggting to find the suggestion refuted, I find that it has gone, even from the archives - has it been erased ? and if so by whom and why? Has it been censored

There's only ever been one story censored on this site, and that was when postings about the former Mayor, Mr Miller, became rather too personal and began to look like a vendetta. The intention has been to avoid censorship. It's difficult to know when it's necessary but it seemed right then. Anyway, nothing was censored (if that was the intention the comment would not have stayed up!). That comment was posted under a thread about problems with beach huts on the main beach, and when the subject was resolved a new notice was posted to explain the position. I didn't think there was a need to respond then, but I shall now. I do indeed own a shed near the lifeboat station, on a site leased from the council. I say shed because it's rather different from having a beach hut on the new sandy main beach! It came into my family as thanks for a service my grandfather did for one of the lifeboat crew over fifty years ago, and I realise I'm lucky to have it. But I think my financial arrangements are my own business, although it certainly costs more than £130! Mike Hadley

I thought when a person became a councillor/mp etc they had to bare their soul ie any thing that might be described as "having an interest" you dont want to be disqualiffied now do you?

The Postman said...

As a councillor you have to conduct yourself according to certain standards (which is why Mrs Wheeldon was disqualified). And yes, one of the things is declaring an interest in matters in which you may have a prejudicial interest. So for example, when the subject of the beach huts on the main beach was raised in a council meeting, a councillor with one of the huts stepped out of the meeting. As I would have done if I had one of them. But proper conduct does not mean having to expose every detail of your personal life! After all, councillors are just ordinary people living ordinary lives who feel that perhaps they can give some time to help make the community better.Sorry if you don't feel I am doing this, but that's my intention. If you really feel that I have acted improperly you must complain to the Standards Board for England. e

The problem of liability for the declaration of an interest, ergo, ‘the Hadley beach hut saga’ is somewhat ridiculous. A councillor, is a councillor within his community, for exactly that reason, by default, i.e. he lives there, and “everybody’s got to be somewhere,” claimed Spike Milligan, therefore he/she is part of the community in which he/she lives and raises their children, so can’t help not have an interest in it and hopefully a commitment to it.

To follow the logic of ‘declaration of interest’ through to its ultimate conclusion, the only people who should become, town, district, or county counsellors, or even Member of Parliament are illegal immigrants, having no declarable interests. Therefore, I believe it is preferable to have representatives of integrity who have an interest and a stake in their community.

ohhh tut tut a swipe at julie ehhh! no one suggested you were like her at all, but surley if you have a councill rented property and it is sugested |(not by me) that you are perhaps not paying the full amount its is in your interest to tell all? after all sir your party is making ( or trying) to make hay over julie disqualification.

It seems this is thread is becoming a personal vendatta (not to mention libellous!), so perhaps the time has come to end the debate — as would be fair to anyone. For the final time then, as I indicated before, I have a perfectly proper long-standing and publicly-declared lease of a site from the Council. If you have a complaint to make please talk to the Standards Board for England.

This year, June the 6th will be 62 years since D Day when the British landed on "Gold beach and Sword Beach"

But with the added interest this year, the first time that the 27th of June will be the National Veterans Day.
I wonder if Swanage will be doing soemthing?
Does anyone know of any plans to celebrate the first National Veterans Day?
