Clean up Swanage

I had the feeling that Swanage has been a pretty nice place to be on Fri and Sat evenings of late.
Seems the police have been rounding up the underage drinkers. Cheers for that! Have a drink on me. Anon!obcsyksz

Alcohol seized from under-age drinkers

(extract only...)

In the past few weeks large groups of youths have been gathering to socialise in Swanage on Friday and Saturday nights.
According to police this has sparked problems, including under-age drinking, criminal damage, littering and low-level anti-social behaviour such as fighting, shouting and swearing.

To combat the problem Dorset Police, the Youth Service, Purbeck District Council and Purbeck Community Safety Action Group have joined forces to develop a multi-agency response. The group is now looking at how it can improve facilities for youths in the town. The district council's antisocial behaviour officer has also been involved in helping to assess the extent of the problem.

But with the introduction of roadside tables and chairs outside drinking establishments, have you noticed the emergence of the Alpha Male, casting his beady eye on all who enter his domain and barking a quip to establish his authority?

Congratulations to the police for taking this action. Come on you lot, where are your comments too? There's always loads of criticism on this site, how about some praise?
As for the last posting about the Alpha Males, I'd rather have a High Street full of them than full of yobs.

As a regular complainer about antisocial behaviour I would also like to praise the recent police response. Maybe if they want to get the offenders doing something positive for the town they could start by getting them to clean up the grafitti in the alley in Institute road. Also some public toilets being open at night may stop them from using the streets. Long may the highly visible police response continue

I'm the original poster on this thread, so thanks to the Postman for giving us the Echo piece.

4:45 seems to give the impresion that I'll ignore what's happened and criticise what's replaced it.

2:54 nice one. To be petty, oh c'mon why not, I thought we could only have 1 alpha male, but hey!

3:56 owns up to being a moaner, no praise for what has happened, then gives advice to the Police, and seems to forget that it's the courts who actually hand out sentences and as of yet there are no reports of arrests. Yeah, but what's wrong with a bit of vigilantism? Glad to see s/he finishes on a positive note, but 1 open loo won't solve the problem. 20 years ago if I couldn't find one I pee'd where I stood.

To sum up, we either ignore this problem and wait for the Police sort it out (thanks), or we try to raise our, and I stress, our, young peoples expectations.
How, ah, you got me there, I dunno.
Anyone got any ideas?

ALPHA MALES
"I thought we could only have 1 alpha male"
That pre-supposes all the tables and chairs are in the same group! You get one Alpha Male per group - haven't you noticed?
Putting out those tables and chairs does have one huge benefit though. It makes sure the Smoking Alpha Males are outside annoying passers-by, rather than customers inside.
One downside is that those outside act as a barrier to the business though. Pubs aren't going to become more attractive to customers if you have to run the gauntlet of smoking, wise-cracking failures to get inside.

At least I admitted that I was being petty!
