Purbeck View School

With an advert in the local paper I see that Purbeck View School plan an expanding. Does anybody have any ideas as to where this will happen?

No, but nip up there on the 15th, they're having an open day

I believe they have made a planning application for enhanced/enlarged buildings on the existing site.

I heard it is to revamp and improve existing facilities, not to build new ones.

STC agendas are late in being posted, so nothing there - what else is new?

A quick search on PDC website (look in the PASS section on the right hand side)

Thanks. Looks as though it is up to STC for the final approval. I maintain my point that STC hasn't posted recent planning meeting agenda - which is par for the course.

STC don't have final approval on any planning matters. They are purely a consultee, asked to provide any local insights that may be relevant. Planning decisions are made by PDC, and approval is generally assumed to be given, according to legal criteria.
Plans are reviewed at Town Council meetings, and (I agree) the agendas are usually very late. But the agenda itself will just say "Plans for consideration". More details are posted on the Town noticeboard, in the Council chamber itself a few days before the meeting. And, of course, everything can be seen on the PDC 'PASS' website

When STC concurs, permission will go ahead, with conditions that seems reasonable.

I just wish that 'bubble' would disappear! Either build something permanent, or do away with it.

How did THAT ever receive PP??

I just read that Prof Simon Baron-Cohen of Cambridge University is on the Advisory Panel of Cambrian Schools which own Purbeck View.

That's the brother of Sascha Baron-Cohen..a.k.a. Ali G and Borat fame.

The Prof. is incredibly well respected - quite a brilliant family.

Do you mean the Dome..that is Harrow House not Purbeck View School. Perhaps we got 'the bubble' on the back of Harrow house agreeing to accommodate a sports facility for Swanage, this lasted a few years and then we were all evicted.
I think that PDC planning call it mitigation, its a softener, a bit like Tescos, offering to support local infrastructure eg roads (highways).

Sorry - right bubble - wrong school.

Your answer provides yet another reason why we need our own recreation centre in Swanage. A proper one, not some half-baked attempt such as this one was, or the Vista Centre.

Thanks for enlightening me!

Where do you think it should be built? There was a lot of discussion of this a few years ago and it went into abeyance pending the outcome of the school review. SMS having surplus space looks like the obvious contender now the idea is being revisited. I am quite surprised at the shortness of memory of fellow posters on here.

Ideally, I would favour building it on the SMS site, or adjacent land. There appears to be land available there; it is on the edge of the town but not in the centre; it is easily accessible from Langton and up the A351; it is on the major bus line. Pending the final decision regarding the future of the SMS site as a school, it might act as the sports centre for the school (as happens at Purbeck School) with its facilities available to all Swanage schools.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

They've got their planning permission, let's hope they use a local firm.
