Swanage, victim of global cooling

Have you noticed how after about 2pm the sun dims as it goes behind thin cloud ? Well it’s not cloud it is ice crystals from airliners which are funnelled from all over the UK to depart to the South/South West from the departure point about 15 miles South of Swanage where they put on extra power to climb to their allocated flight level, 20 ~ 40,000 feet for their journey.

The modern fan jet engine sucks in circa one and a half tons of air A SECOND, compressing then heating it and forcing it out where the water droplets then freeze to become con(densation)/vapour trails which then spread across the sky to block the sun.

During the four days after 9/11 when all flights were grounded in the USA the ambient temperature went up by 3 to 5 degrees C. The same thing probably happened here when UK Airspace was closed because of the volcano, but that information will not be made available to Joe Public here.

And when are the little green Martians landing in your back garden?

What utter tosh.

Anonymous said...

If it is 'tosh', what is YOUR explanation?

Anonymous said...

The explanation is readily available to GCSE pupils through standard texts.

Anonymous said...

There are no shortage of weather records with daily temperature. Why not check these from Durlston County Park and see if it did happen.

Anonymous said...

Ah, yes indeed the records prove the point - not simple GCSE nonsense after all.

Anonymous said...

What point??

Anonymous said...

My ‘point’ in raising the initial question, Swanage victim of Global COOLING was not intended to be a question of known physics regarding water vapour/condensation/ ergo vapour trails = cirrus cloud, [see; http://contrailscience.com/volcano-clears-the-skies-of-contrails/ or any one of the scores of websites on the subject.]

I was asking,
i) Why concentrate ‘Airway’ departures from the Southern UK Airports so that the inevitable clouds created block the sunlight from Purbeck or any populated area/land.
ii) Why did the CAA choose 17 miles 190’ (S by SW) from Swanage/Purbeck?
iii) Will they move it ?

Why don't you ask them.

There are more important problems facing us at the moment, I would say.

By all means, find the answer if it makes you happy.

Doesn't global cooling counter global warming? Just a question.

TEN MYTHS of Global Warming

MYTH 1: Global temperatures are rising at a rapid, unprecedented rate.

FACT: Accurate satellite, balloon and mountain top observations made over the last three decades have not shown any significant change in the long term rate of increase in global temperatures. Average ground station readings do show a mild warming of 0.6 to 0.8Cover the last 100 years, which is well within the natural variations recorded in the last millennium. The ground station network suffers from an uneven distribution across the globe; the stations are preferentially located in growing urban and industrial areas ("heat islands"), which show substantially higher readings than adjacent rural areas ("land use effects").

There has been no catastrophic warming recorded.

MYTH 2: The "hockey stick" graph proves that the earth has experienced a steady, very gradual temperature increase for 1000 years, then recently began a sudden increase.

FACT: Significant changes in climate have continually occurred throughout geologic time. For instance, the Medieval Warm Period, from around 1000 to1200 AD (when the Vikings farmed on Greenland) was followed by a period known as the Little Ice Age. Since the end of the 17th Century the "average global temperature" has been rising at the low steady rate mentioned above; although from 1940 – 1970 temperatures actually dropped, leading to a Global Cooling scare.

The "hockey stick", a poster boy of both the UN's IPCC and Canada's Environment Department, ignores historical recorded climatic swings, and has now also been proven to be flawed and statistically unreliable as well. It is a computer construct and a faulty one at that.

MYTH 3: Human produced carbon dioxide has increased over the last 100 years, adding to the Greenhouse effect, thus warming the earth.

FACT: Carbon dioxide levels have indeed changed for various reasons, human and otherwise, just as they have throughout geologic time. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution, the CO2 content of the atmosphere has increased. The RATE of growth during this period has also increased from about 0.2% per year to the present rate of about 0.4% per year, which growth rate has now been constant for the past 25 years. However, there is no proof that CO2 is the main driver of global warming. As measured in ice cores dated over many thousands of years, CO2 levels move up and down AFTER the temperature has done so, and thus are the RESULT OF, NOT THE CAUSE of warming. Geological field work in recent sediments confirms this causal relationship. There is solid evidence that, as temperatures move up and down naturally and cyclically through solar radiation, orbital and galactic influences, the warming surface layers of the earth's oceans expel more CO2 as a result.

MYTH 4: CO2 is the most common greenhouse gas.
FACT: Greenhouse gases form about 3 % of the atmosphere by volume. They consist of varying amounts, (about 97%) of water vapour and clouds, with the remainder being gases like CO2, CH4, Ozone and N2O, of which carbon dioxide is the largest amount. Hence, CO2 constitutes about 0.037% of the atmosphere. While the minor gases are more effective as "greenhouse agents" than water vapour and clouds, the latter are overwhelming the effect by their sheer volume and – in the end – are thought to be responsible for 60% of the "Greenhouse effect".

Those attributing climate change to CO2 rarely mention this important fact.

David Furmage said...

MYTH 5: Computer models verify that CO2 increases will cause significant global warming.

FACT: Computer models can be made to "verify" anything by changing some of the 5 million input parameters or any of a multitude of negative and positive feedbacks in the program used.. They do not "prove" anything. Also, computer models predicting global warming are incapable of properly including the effects of the sun, cosmic rays and the clouds. The sun is a major cause of temperature variation on the earth surface as its received radiation changes all the time, This happens largely in cyclical fashion. The number and the lengths in time of sunspots can be correlated very closely with average temperatures on earth, e.g. the Little Ice Age and the Medieval Warm Period. Varying intensity of solar heat radiation affects the surface temperature of the oceans and the currents. Warmer ocean water expels gases, some of which are CO2. Solar radiation interferes with the cosmic ray flux, thus influencing the amount ionized nuclei which control cloud cover.

MYTH 6: The UN proved that man–made CO2 causes global warming.

FACT: In a 1996 report by the UN on global warming, two statements were deleted from the final draft. Here they are:
1) “None of the studies cited above has shown clear evidence that we can attribute the observed climate changes to increases in greenhouse gases.”
2) “No study to date has positively attributed all or part of the climate change to man–made causes”

To the present day there is still no scientific proof that man-made CO2 causes significant global warming.

MYTH 7: CO2 is a pollutant.
FACT: This is absolutely not true. Nitrogen forms 80% of our atmosphere. We could not live in 100% nitrogen either. Carbon dioxide is no more a pollutant than nitrogen is. CO2 is essential to life on earth. It is necessary for plant growth since increased CO2 intake as a result of increased atmospheric concentration causes many trees and other plants to grow more vigorously. Unfortunately, the Canadian Government has included CO2 with a number of truly toxic and noxious substances listed by the Environmental Protection Act, only as their means to politically control it.

MYTH 8: Global warming will cause more storms and other weather extremes.

FACT: There is no scientific or statistical evidence whatsoever that supports such claims on a global scale. Regional variations may occur. Growing insurance and infrastructure repair costs, particularly in coastal areas, are sometimes claimed to be the result of increasing frequency and severity of storms, whereas in reality they are a function of increasing population density, escalating development value, and ever more media reporting.

MYTH 9: Receding glaciers and the calving of ice shelves are proof of global warming.

FACT: Glaciers have been receding and growing cyclically for hundreds of years. Recent glacier melting is a consequence of coming out of the very cool period of the Little Ice Age. Ice shelves have been breaking off for centuries. Scientists know of at least 33 periods of glaciers growing and then retreating. It’s normal. Besides, glacier's health is dependent as much on precipitation as on temperature.

MYTH 10: The earth’s poles are warming; polar ice caps are breaking up and melting and the sea level rising.

FACT: The earth is variable. The western Arctic may be getting somewhat warmer, due to unrelated cyclic events in the Pacific Ocean, but the Eastern Arctic and Greenland are getting colder. The small Palmer Peninsula of Antarctica is getting warmer, while the main Antarctic continent is actually cooling. Ice thicknesses are increasing both on Greenland and in Antarctica.

Sea level monitoring in the Pacific (Tuvalu) and Indian Oceans (Maldives) has shown no sign of any sea level rise.

David furmage said...

Finally, no one can show that a warmer climate would produce negative impacts overall. The much–feared rise in sea levels does not seem to depend on short–term temperature changes, as the rate of sea–level increases has been steady since the last ice age, 10,000 years ago. In fact, many economists argue that the opposite is more likely—that warming produces a net benefit, that it increases incomes and standards of living. Why do we assume that the present climate is the optimum? Surely, the chance of this must be vanishingly small, and the economic history of past climate warmings bear this out.

But the main message of The Great Global Warming Swindle is much broader. Why should we devote our scarce resources to what is essentially a non–problem, and ignore the real problems the world faces: hunger, disease, denial of human rights—not to mention the threats of terrorism and nuclear wars? And are we really prepared to deal with natural disasters; pandemics that can wipe out most of the human race, or even the impact of an asteroid, such as the one that wiped out the dinosaurs? Yet politicians and the elites throughout much of the world prefer to squander our limited resources to fashionable issues, rather than concentrate on real problems. Just consider the scary predictions emanating from supposedly responsible world figures: the chief scientist of Great Britain tells us that unless we insulate our houses and use more efficient light bulbs, the Antarctic will be the only habitable continent by 2100, with a few surviving breeding couples propagating the human race. Seriously!

I imagine that in the not–too–distant future all the hype will have died down, particularly if the climate should decide to cool—as it did during much of the past century; we should take note here that it has not warmed since 1998. Future generations will look back on the current madness and wonder what it was all about.

Global warming a hoax? How can that be? New Labour told us it is true!!

How can it be anything other than that?

Fact: 'Global warming' is a lie to cow people into accepting policies that increase tax revenue; to coerce the population to blindly accept policies that under no other circumstances (except war) would be accepted almost without question.

Want an example? Drive into London on the M4 by Heathrow and encounter 'low carbon zone' signs. Is there less carbon? No. Is there increased revenue for the council? You bet. It is a scam.

lame burgers; our addiction to grazed meat is a bigger 'polluter' than burning carbon fuels. If that fact matters.

Pollution not global warming or cooling is the real enemy.

The pollution from all those aircraft mentioned by RobO clouds the atmosphere around our major airports and together with the traffic pollution causes a permanent haze in those localities. Swanage is remote enough not to suffer in this way. Some of this did disappear when the aircraft were grounded as a result of the volcano dust . The ice crystals above Swanage are a minor inconvenience compared to the pollution suffered by residents around Heathrow/Gatwick for example.

What to do about this? It is unlikely that we can change our habit of international travel which keeps many businesses going around the globe. Neither would there be any desire on the part of travellers to do so. Increased taxes could limit the travel for pleasure or business and the revenue could go towartds NHS treatments for respitory diseasees associated with the problem. The quest for cleaner fuels will continue but we are wedded to our ways of life and business.

To David Furmage - cant be helped if the comment appears twice due to a gliche somewhere along the way. Sorry it caused you a problem. However all that bilge about 10 myths makes me wonder whose brain is in trouble......

Carlin, a reasonably funny comedian, saying nothing new, to, um, people.

He says that we've only been here for a second, true, he supports the Gaia Principle, which we'll never know about cuz we'll be gone.

The thing that most of his 'fans' seem to forget is that we've got the time to worry about such things cuz of mans achievements in Science, Medicine, Mass Production etc, etc.

Why does a man who believes in the power of nature, trim his beard and wear a pony tail?

Anonymous said...

6.32 Carlin is clever; your attack is boring. He can wear his hair as he pleased - or did, as he is no longer on this earth.

Dear 8.04

What is a 'cuz'?

I recall the word used by Shakespeare but I believe it was an affectionate abbreviation for 'cousin'.

Is it, perchance, lazy argument?

Why don't you two boys get a room to yourselves and leave the rest of us alone? You are far, far off topic!

Yeah, you're right, but I was hoping for some intelligent comment on this thread.

Oh well, never mind.

Anonymous said...

OK then here it is, some further proof of global warming. The Marine Climate Impacts Report has confirmed a sharp drop in the number of seabirds breeding around our coasts due to the rise in temperatures causing a change in plankton population in the North Sea.

This report includes contributions from around 100 scientists. They cant all be wrong can they David?

Anonymous said...

I thought the topic of this thread is cooling. Warming, cooling.....you can't have it both ways (or perhaps any 'facts' can be spun to suit a theory)?

Anonymous said...

8.23 Intelligent comment? When do you intend to begin?

Anonymous said...

I didn't say that I was going to make them.

Anonymous said...

The original topic was cooling but that aint happening

David Furmage said...

THE END OF THE WORLD IS NIGH......................cuz a few birds dont live on our coasts anymore.

Better move to higher grounds ;)

The reason some contrails remain and some disappear is because the temperature of the layer at which the contrail was made. In other words: sub freezing temps means the contrails remain and widen because of atmospheric winds. If the temperature is above freezing the contrails (water vapors) will only freeze momentarily after passing over the wings - then quickly the ice crystals will melt and vaporize (become gas).

Herr Furmage -

Get a grip (or get another hobby)!

I would find you amusing if I could work out your 'agenda'. You are all over the place with your 'message'.

Get a grip, focus, and tell us where you stand. Please stop all the rants. You may do yourself an injury!

The scientists didnt claim the end of the world is nigh. Where does that come from???

There is much misinformation peddled against global warming and Mr Furmedge seems to have bought it. Very amusing !!

David Furmage said...

For the last two posts first its MR , not Herr and its Furmage not Furmedge.

Where do I stand , well on my own two feet like most people I know!

The earth is just going through another age. If global warming is happening well its all our fault.

Though to be honest I look forward too seeing big storms ripping our country up. WHY you may ask , well I like bad weather for the simple reason it brings waves and wind and snow. And these things excite me as the world around us at these times is telling us how little we really are.

And lets face it whatever we do , Mother nature will always kick our butts.

An idea for Mr Furmege - I can recommend moving to the northern point of Scotland if you really like wind, waves and snow that much? Its in plentiful supply despite global warming/cooling or whatever......

David Furmage said...

Funny you should say that but I moved down from Scotland 5 years ago after living up there for 10 years. Missed the best snow season they had last year :(

Thou Scotland and Ireland come to think of it offer the best waves in europe.

Plus moved back down here to be with family and bring up my own. So not much chance of me moving for a while.

Oh and its FURMAGE ;)

Instead of arguing why don't we agree that it's Climate Change.

To be fair it doesn't really matter whether its cooling or warming, or whether we are influencing this change or not.

Even if we are not influencing climate change it is a fact that we are buggering up our planet. We are polluting our rivers, sea, countryside and air with plastic, chemicals, oil, intense farming, we are killing off our wild animals, trees and making our children sick with our selfish and greedy human behaviour. We are all to blame. Me, us and you.

To be fair this earth would kindly thank us all if we (humans) became extinct. What other living creature is resposible for such destruction ?

It's not all your fault,it's mine too.

Happy Sunday !
