Elections: TODAY until 10 pm

Local elections are being held on Thursday 5th May to elect Swanage representatives for Purbeck District Council and Swanage Town Council. There will also be a referendum on whether to adopt the Alternative Vote, rather than the present 'first past the post' system, for national elections in the future. You should have received a Polling Card with details of where to vote, but you don't have to take your card with you to vote.

Please vote (or promise you won't complain about anything to do with any councils for the next four years).

I hope some of you may vote for me, Mike Hadley, so that I may continue my work on the Council, addressing local issues in the community.

Specifically Mike, tell us are you in favour of pedestrianisation of the seafront?
Reversal of Church Hill until a direct route to north Swanage can be organised?
Building on Herston Fields?
The Jive Aces for Swanage?
Wind Farms locally?

While I prefer to respond to named people, in answer to your question, whether I am favour of the following:

Pedestrianisation of the seafront? I would favour some degree of pedestrianisation here, perhaps of the sort that allows some traffic through (at some times or in some places) in a managed way that slows it right down. I look forward to the next phase of the consultation on this subject.

Reversal of Church Hill until a direct route to north Swanage can be organised? I don't think a unilateral decision can be made without proper consultation of all parties. It seems to make some sense, but I realise there are a number of issues involved. I'm not sure of the current status, but I believe that this is still being considered as part of an overall review of transport issues in Swanage

Building on Herston Fields? No

The Jive Aces for Swanage? Why not?

Wind Farms locally? I'm all for environmentally responsible energy production, but not sure the case is made for wind farms generally, and don't agree that the proposed site is right, in such an environmentally sensitive area.

The reversal of Church Hill as an idea has been mooted for decades.

I think if it was going to happen it would have by now.

Which councillors are standing down. And which councillors are standing. Are there any new suspects?

Hi Mike, just to make this absolutely clear... Although I did post the original question about The Jive Aces (and put my name to it), I am not the 'Anonymous' who asked you those five questions above!
Good luck in the elections!

You can go if you have some form of ID. I've voted without a card before.
