Swanage Matters

Can it only be STC that could send every household details of a "recently re-launched" website which doesn't work?

How 'doesn't it work'? I think it's a big improvement on the old site — and great that we can now read associated documents relevant to agenda items.

the site is down

and they can't even spell their own website address

I hear the reason the site is down is something to do with the power breakdown in Swanage yesterday ...

alternative server?

Can somebody tell us how much the Town Council paid for this site from Blue Level without any backup?

You could make a freedom of information request and post the answer on here for us all to see. By the way, do you ask private firms how much of their customer's money is spent on websites and other forms of marketing?

I can use or not private firms. Whoever put the full stop at the end of STC website address should be reprimanded and whoever proof read it should be sacked.

Talk about obvious mistakes on web sites. Is it just me are all these timetables the wrong way around:

just read of this site and tried to access it, could'nt!!! "server error"!!!!!!!

I presume someone has to turn up and restart an unattended server. Looks like someone spared the council tax payers pockets and did not specify an uninterruptible power supply.

Dear, oh dear. A sentence with a full stop at the end. That defeated all you technical types and must set a record for the most trivial act by a council that anyone has ever grumbled about. I take it if the full stop had been omitted a different set of obsessives would be complaining.

Still disappointed by the lack of good images in the gallery. When this was first launched I hoped they were just there as examples.

Surely someone has taken better snaps of the town?

I also think it's an improvment over the old site. I do find that the menu system on the right side of the page overlaps the text, and this is even when the text is set to the smallest setting in Firefox 5.

Can anyone tell me if the server is down, do e-mails sent to XXX@swanage.gov.uk still get through eventually?

Because you are not sending your email to the website server. STC email could use a totally different company for each. Email addresses often lead to a redirection server from where they are relayed to another address and have no connection with the organisation's website.

Well.

This is what my local town here offers in the summer. Same size as Swanage. Similar seaside town:

The point is they are going to make Station Road pay and display. What a stupid idea. People want to be able to nip into town and get a paper, loaf of bread, post a letter etc. Leave it free to park but for say 20 minutes only. Then you get a ticket. That would get the traffic moving and people using the Town centre again. There are plenty of car parks for motorists who need longer.

Millions of sites across the country were down due to a power outage at one of the UK's biggest datacentres last weds. These things are rare but they can happen. See http://www.zdnet.co.uk/blogs/mixed-signals-10000051/docklands-telecity-meridian-gate-suffers-outage-10023694/ for nerdy detail.
