Comments

5 June: given the increase in unpleasant comments and irrelevant rants, I think it's time to try to ensure everyone uses an identifiable user name, so at least people may have a sense of whether comments are coming from one individual or many. We'll see how it goes, and I apologise if it causes any difficulties, but you can blame the bitter b****** out there who see this place as somewhere to grind their axe and pursue personal agendas rather than to contribute to our community
13 June: have reverted to allowing anonymous postings, as the above seems to have seriously limited access. Just hope people can behave sensibly ....

I'm not sure the best way to do this, so any comments gratefully received....

I'm not saying you need to use your real name, if you don't want to; just A name so people can identify whether one or many people are making certain comments-- your Postman: Mike Hadley

Please add this comment for discussion.

I am aged 23 and live and work in Swanage. I am "blessed" by looking alot younger than 23.

I was cycling home from work tonight, minding my own business at 10.30pm. I was on Lower High Street when a couple in their 50s had a real rant at me for cycling on the pavement (I was actually on the road but looked as if I were going to mount pavement apparently). I was calm and relaxed in my response. Final greeting was the guy commenting, very sarcastically on how lovely and safe my helmet looked (because I was apparently about to cycle on the pavement which obviously isn't safe thing to do). It was totally unprovoked but they felt the need to be pretty rude.

Now my question is this "Would they have taken the same approach if I were also in my 50s, 40s or 30s prehaps - even if I looked my actual age of 23 rather than about 16?!? Or does this demonstrate a lack of understanding / respect to the teens of this town, coming from those who really should know better?"

How do you post comments on this thing? Mine are never put up for discussion!

No comments in ages.

Shall we declare this blog dead?

Thomas, I once cycled on the pavement for a brief five seconds or so only to be confronted at the other end of the street by a man in his 50s who threatened to 'kick my head in'.

Perhaps we've been targeted by the same violent maniac?
