Durslton Bus

Once again, there will be a bus service from Swanage to Durlston. This will start on Sunday 26 May and run daily until 30 Sept; the exact route and timings are still to be confirmed. There's a need to be able to show it is an important part of Swanage’s transport system so the more it is used the better.

Brilliant, how shouild this service be promoted?
The mood up the Park is summed up by the t-shirts they sell which read something like:
Durlston is such a wonderful place-
don't tell anyone about it.

Great news. Hope it is well used. Being a bit geeky bus services need to be registered with the Traffic Commissioners 56 days before the service starts. This sets out the route and timetable, and allows the bus service to charge fares. I'm surprised that the route/timetable has yet to be agreed if it is starting in two weeks time. The Park have only had since last September to sort it out. Don't mean to sound grumpy but if you don't publicise things how can they be used. As 12.10 says ..... perhaps visitors are a pain

Durlston would be a much nicer place without visitors, apart from myself.
Each time I complain about the views, the Coast Path, the orchids (do they really need six types?), the meadows, the exhibitions, the film nights, the guided walks, the boat trips, the good food, dry stone walls, Easter Egg hunts, seabirds, the website, social media, weddings, astronomy evenings, hordes of school children, the daily Diary, live music – the Ranger staff tell me that they’re working hard to bring even more people to Durlston to enjoy its so-called attractions.
Now they’ve even persuaded a bus company to help people get there. I ask you!

Just checked the traveline website; every 30 mins between 10.00am amd 5.00pm roughly, operated by Damory Coaches. Runs by the hospital. Paid for by Dorset CC.

Is this advertised at the Castle? Not on the Durlston website. Hopefully someone can update this as soon as possible to let visitors know.

9.07 - don't think either of the two previous posts were having a go at the wonderful facilities and landscape. You should cut folk some slack.

@7.51 "You should cut folk some slack." But not the Durlston staff according to the first two posters, apparently. The wonderful facilities and landscape depend on the staff and volunteers keeping them that way.

I for one hope that it sticks to timetable this year. I'm fed up with buses (generally) departing from their stops on route early, meaning people have to stand for ages prior to the departure time for fear of missing the things. Lets go Swiss style and have the buses wait for timetabled departure at each stop.

Then there's late buses to be dealt with too.....

I think Durlston staff are fantastic and an asset to the Park and Dorset CC - make no mistake about that. Brilliant knowledge and understanding of the local landscape, and extremely accessible. Helpful too. The comments were about promotion and publicity; can't read any more in to them.
Website still doesn't have bus service details - not a moan but a comment. DCC website too. Why spend probably the thick part of £50K on a bus service and not let people know in advance? Why not leaflet every house on the route? Perhaps the rangers know about orchids (all six - is that all?) and bus planners (at DCC) know about buses (and not telling people/visitors)

The Durlston bus is running now and is making an additional stop at Swanage Hospital. The timetable is in the Purbeck Breezer Summer 2013 leaflet. Passenger numbers are beginning to increase and there were 13 passengers on the 16:28 service from Durlston today. I agree with the comments about poor advertising of this service.
