Home guard?

With the recent TV programme on the Home Guard. It would be interesting to see how many Swanage men are still around that served in those far off days? OR even in the LDV. The Local defence Volunteers. LDV at the time stood for "Look, Duck, and Vanish"

Referring to local experiences, would it not have been nicer, better, wiser to have included those people who have retired to Swanage and are now Swanage citizens.
In its long history Purbeck and Swanage have had problems and have benefited through the benevolence, enterprise and business acumen of outsiders.
Surely in the present there must be many people retired to the area that have war experience, have literary and art skills, who may have written books or contributed technical papers to vocational and trade journals.
There must be a lot of experience and expertise out there that could be tapped.
Know your neighbour.

P.S. Then there are our young men and women in many areas of the world trying to maintain the peace while democracy is born. Besides those working in disaster areas and famine conditions. It’s a smaller but bigger world.
