H F in Swanage


Anon asks: I am wanting to identify the location of the (Christian) Holiday Fellowship that once existed in Swanage. Can you help with location, date of closing, etc?

All I can find is that it used to be in the Graigside Hotel, and was running in 1998.

I understand it is no longer avaliable.

Wasn't it the large brick building in the High Street (about opposite Purbeck House hotel) now turned into flats.

Hope I won't muddy the waters, but while we think your right, there are the Craigside flats, end of Belle View Road - were they an Hotel until late '80's?

Yep, I recognize the building. Now Springhill House, formerly Craigside, on High Street across from the Purbeck House Hotel. It was a Holiday Fellowship hotel, now HF Holidays, no religious association.
Highcliffe was a Methodist Guild hotel, no longer in operation, on Highcliffe Road in Swanage.

Yes we had just worked this out having walked up High Street. We met there in 1988 and visited today on our 25th wedding anniversary

It was Highcliffe hotel, I stayed there as a child in the 80’s. Had a little walkway down to the beach. It’s still there although I’m not sure what it’s called now
