Swanage Life

Swanage Life

I am currently preparing a new website for Swanage called Swanage Life covering topics such as:

What’s On in Swanage, Special Offers from Shops, Restaurants, Hotels, Things To Do, Alternative Swanage, A Guide to Night Life, Local Services and Trades, Companies That Deliver Goods, Cleaners For Your Holiday Home, What’s Hot and What’s Not, Festivals, Concerts, Children’s Activities, Where To Stay, Where To Eat, Where To Drink, Where To Hire Disabled Equipment, Street Maps and Important Telephone Numbers, Who Makes The Best Coffee, Opinions and Personal Histories, Why People Live Here and much more!

OK Everybody! Here's a chance for you!

* Tell me what you think should be covered under 'much more'.

So why am I doing this? Well, the last Swanage Blues Festival brought in less money from local businesses than ever before, and I can't keep the festivals going without financial backing. So the idea is that this new website will make me some dosh and keep the festivals afloat. Who knows? if there's enough coming in, I might even be able to do more events!

I am willing to update the website on a daily basis, but I can't go round chasing for information, so it's up to you!

Good luck with the new site, its about time we had a good swanage website with useful local info.

I think that Virtual Swanage is an excellent website.

Virtual Swanage as some info but it seems to be lacking up to date events and things like the resturants menus etc like you talked about. Good luck with this and I hope you end up with the largest and most useful local site for the town.

Just a thought. Apart from the blogs how are you finding out what visitors to Swanage would like to see on this site?

Someone on Virtual Swanage has suggested "everyday things to make everyones life easier". Someone else suggested:

Pub guide with menu details, disabled facilities, children's menu details, Travel guide - how to get to different places; not just by car but bus and ferry services, including the swanage pier sailings. Details of out of hours chemists and holidaymakers surgery (if they still do one). Tide times and safe bathing areas, plus warning about the dreaded weaverfish (family member stung by one a couple of weeks back!). Cycle routes, Details of places of worship with service times, Boat hire and cycle hire, Town trails and walks, Competitions - maybe a photo of some obscure bit of the town to identfy, Discount vouchers for shops/b& bs if they mention the website, Where to 'shop green'/organic produce/veggie and vegan goods, Local sales and markets, plus boot and garage sales, Short country walks suitable for kids, Picnic areas, Details of where to park - for how much and for how long, Bank and building society branches and hole-in-the-walls, Playgrounds

So keep 'em coming, the more the merrier!

I've just put a free competition on www.swanagelife.com for two tickets to the Shakin' Stevens and Ben Waters Big Band gig next week.

BlueLevel Media recently announced:

"Continuing with a long-term relationship, we have been tasked with redeveloping the websites for Swanage Town Council and their associated Holiday Park. Both sites will face a massive overhaul and will be due for launch in September 2008." http://tiny.cc/umOEu

Yes, thanks to everybody who has pointed out that, since I announced I was working on a new website for Swanage:

1. Swanage Town Council has engaged Blue Level Media to update the town council and caravan park websites;

2. it has become known that Purbeck District Council is going to update its tourism site and feature Swanage

3. Virtual Swanage has undergone a transformation for the better too!

Thanks to everybody who's asked about the Local Food and World Music Festival, and the new website Swanage Life that will be supporting it.
Plans for both festival and website are temporarily on hold while I raise funds for the existing blues festivals in March and October.
Since each existing blues festival brings £136,000 extra business into town - twice a year and out-of-season - I feel I should work on the survival of these festivals at the moment, rather than embark on new projects.
