SOUTH Dorset’s would-be MP Richard Drax has been drawn into the “Tory toff” row, courtesy of his blue-blooded background and quadruple-barrelled name.
Richard Grosvenor Plunkett-Ernle-Erle Drax was labelled the ultimate “Dave’s de-toff” by a national newspaper, who detailed his privileged background and Elizabethan stately home.
It follows allegations that Conservative leader David Cameron has been trying to “de-toff” some of the poshest Tory candidates ahead of next year’s general election.
Former BBC reporter Mr Drax lives in Charborough House near Almer, Dorset, which is set in 7,000 acres of private land.
He was formerly married to the sister of Tiggy Legge-Bourke, who was nanny to Princes William and Harry.
He was unavailable for comment yesterday but Labour’s Jim Knight, the current MP for South Dorset, said he wanted people to allocate their vote to whoever they felt would best represent them.

From Dorset’s hidden black history
by Louisa Adjoa Parker

The Drax family at Charborough near Poole made their fortune from the seventeenth century sugar plantations and rum trade. Henry Drax was said to be the second largest entrepreneur of Barbados in 1680. He shipped home as much as £5,000 worth of sugar each year.

Apparently the family still own a sugar plantation there. But no slaves, I imagine.

This is obviously my sadness, but I wouldn't vote for him full stop.

This country has been controlled by the 'old school' for far too long, OK, OK, the 'new school' are far from perfect, but I just do not trust Richard blah de blah, can we call him Dick? and people such as 'Dave'.

Jim - or is it James? - Knight has done a pretty fair job for S Dorset, he'll be getting my vote.

If anyone cares .....

Sorry, rant over ..... maybe.

So we can blame you if this rancid corrupt, war mongering eU loving govt: get enough votes to get back in?

The only hope is enough people will wake up and smell the coffee and vote this lot out.

P,S dont worry all you gaurdian reading apologist I did not say I'd vote tory.
anything is better than this lot.

I think we all know it's pretty certain that Labour will lose the general election. But I've heard many people (of all political persuasions) saying how much they think Jim Knight has been a good MP for Dorset. Many have said they don't want a Labour government but they would like to keep Jim as their MP. And certainly better to have him in opposition than Drax in government.Voting for Jim in Dorset is unlikely to affect the national situation. So let's do it.

It's Jim and the labour Government for me ... the alternative will cripple us all ... check out their aims through cuts prog.

Typical socialist spend others money, I honestly though most on here were bright enough, whoever takes over will be landed with a chaotic mess all left by gorgon brown and his inept policies.

Why is it that your 'Average Tory' will nearly always revert to name calling, making up very boring nick names etc., supposition of being on benefits, having less intelligence, understanding and of a lesser mortal when one supports a cause which is not theirs?

Cuz it saves thinking!

Anyway, back to Dick blah de blah and his sugary tones.

Nice piece of right wing, uh, drivel.

We spend too much on education and health.

Pointless aggression.

"... those who work hard, pay their taxes and try and look after their families will result in a meltdown at the ballot box. It will soon be your turn, Mr Chancellor, to take a beating" SIC - he doesn't seem to like the humble full stop either!

Gordon is promoting democracy, ah, no sorry, by giving Wales and Scotland their own assemblies he's risking a thousand years of ......

Climate change is a lie.

He keeps his website so up to date that of the 6 DRAX DIRECT meetings only one remains;

"Typical socialist spend others money"

The powers of observation of you right wing trolls never ceases to amaze. Redistributing resources from those who are good at laying their hands on them to those who are not so good at it has been the unique marketing proposition of socialism for the last 150 years. Did you just notice? What are you, a 12 year old? Is this the reverse of those chat rooms where 42 year old truck drivers pretend to be adolescent nymphettes? Please try harder.

By the way, I recommend Mr Drax's website to anyone in need of a little aversion therapy if they are tempted by his brand of politics but keep away from it if your blood pressure goes up easily.

If all of you are a microcosm of this country's politics, no wonder we are getting nowhere.

Put all your hot air into doing something positive. Join the peasants and do something.

Go chop wood for your fires.

Does it matter who gets in ?

Whoever gets elected is supposed to represent our community. If we the peasants, don't shout loudly enough and attend meetings, then how will those that get voted in know what we would like them to do for us. If they get it wrong, it maybe that we are not being clear about what it is that we want them to do.

If you don't like what they do, then get in there and do it yourself.

Goodness, I never thought I would be saying that a few years ago, but I agree with Nico in that, we should all be trying to make a change, not blaming others. Swanage Carnival Committe have a good saying - if you suggest something then be happy to take it on, don't rely on someone else to do it for you.
Rant over.
