£900 bill for dog mess

AN ELDERLY dog owner has been ordered to pay nearly £900 after failing to clear up after his pets.
The East Dorset District Council prosecution comes following a rise in nuisance dog fouling complaints in Bournemouth and Poole. Pensioner Dennis Hunt was fined £700 for two dog fouling offences. Magistrates also ordered him to pay £192.50 court costs.

At last, it should be a £250 min: fine for dog fouling, 1st offence or not. Dogs are a nuisance whne they bark all day and night, then they foul the pavements.

Well done to the council!

P.S those leads that extend out should be banned, its like some thing out of ben hur scythes you down.

I see the fine for leaving dog mess on the Downs is £1000. That would bring some money in.

I agree, dog fouling is a nasty offence, though the problem (especially here in Swanage) is policing it. When was the last time anyone was fined here? I know on previous threads, reference has been made to dog mess on the roads etc though how can it be enforced? Seems like it is more of a 'threatening' sign, which seems to have little effect. Most dog owners (including myself) are responsible. Some are not. The problem lies more with the owners, clearly.

Dog mess is a bigger problem here than in most places I've lived. It might be because more people own dogs because of all the great walks.

Is it the proportion of old people? The other day I watched an elderly lady who was unable to bend to pick up after her dog. I didn't want my kids to run over it so I picked it up in a nappy bag. You also see a lot of people on mobility scooters pulling dogs along - do they bother?

It's not just the elderly, I know. Just trying to work out why it seems worse.

I thought Swanage had the nickname "dog-****-on-sea".

Word verification "bummic"!!

I have never heard that nickname for Swanage. Perhaps 'sewage', as a rather dull play on words, but not that opprobrium.

Might I add that your post is neither clever nor funny. In fact, the word puerile seems appropriate, except I rather doubt a 12 year old would find it funny - just rather sad.
