Everything in Swanage, apart from property prices has gone up for the Summer season.

I don't think these occasions are aimed at amusing the locals one bit? My guess is that only 50% of residents even bother with the attached freebies?

Who actually gains, other than businesses, when these 'attractions' are laid on?

Sorry to be a moaner, but church fetes, school fetes, art exhibitons to sell wares, Lions, Rotary etc. etc. ... they all seem to be on a different planet?

Having said that, we enjoyed the carnival and folk/country offerings last year, but ... not much changes from year to year. Many local organisations can't be bothered to advertise themselves with a float in the procession, why ... it gives substance to my little rant.

What a bunch of moaners! No one makes a profit organising the Carnival, which raises a lot of money for charity. Honestly, if you are that much of a misery, please stay at home.

Well said, its the charities that benefit and visitors to the town do appreciate it too Im sure. A pity more residents and businesses dont enter into the spirit though. A colourful procession with more floats organised by local businesses would be great.

Perhaps to encourage more floats there could be a bigger sponsored cash prize for the winners to donate to the charity of their choice (including your own charity)?

Perhaps people and businesses could just join in for fun - and a bit of Swanage pride?

Why do people always expect a reward? Are we Pavlov's dog?

Bring back the greasy pole!

Not sure the greasy pole is sophisticated enough for todays visitors - shame really.

Oh what a bunch of total whiners. What is wrong with local businesses doing well from the carnival. they employ local people, doh. 50p for a sheet to enter the competition - big deal. Maybe it goes to some good causes. Or maybe there should be a reduced entry fee (25p perhaps) for whinging locals who can show they have lived and inbred here for 20 years.

With all due respect how do you know its the locals, after all most of the moans abouth noise music and such comes from the retiring $$$$$$ who move here and want peace and quiet. So unless you can back it up dont blame the locals. And inbreeding how rude its the scots and welsh that do that!

Maybe the price of their printers has gone up! So they have to charge that extra , who cares really. I am still looking forward to taking my boys around town to play the game;)

And as for the Scots and Welsh inbreeding , can you ( anonymous )back that up aswell?

" Come on give us your money or we will cancel the carnival next year "

Only in Swanage............

.........will you find countless miserly moaners...........

This is put on by volunteers to benefit the town, you miserable whingers!!! Grow up!

"This is put on by volunteers to benefit the town"

Nobody doubts the good intention of the volunteers but that does not mean it achieves the objective of benefiting the town. Events outside peak tourist time would be a lot more beneficial. Simply cramming more people in at the start of August is bonkers.
