Where are the top class restaurants in Swanage or in the local the area? I am often disappointed after dining out. Plenty of Pub food, plenty of holiday makers fast food outlets.
But where is the top class restaurant, with excellent cuisine that would please your wife, or Lady friend? The classy place?
Sadly, I know of none.
I am sure there is a great need for a place of that quality, for there are still restaurants that have waiting times. But not here in Swanage.

How do you locals feel about Jonathan Ross purchasing a proprty in Swanage?

People have had trouble creating an account in their (or any) name. But it seems there's no need. Try this. 1/ Leave your comment in the box provided
2/ Under 'Choose an identity" select the 'Other' button. The display allows you to enter your Name and Your Web Page but says 'All of these fields are optional"

Swanage has had a visit from the tree surgeons courtesy of the County Council. They seem to go about their craft with much the same mentality as surgeons in Nelson's navy. If in doubt chop off a limb or three!
Trees in other places manage to survive without this treatment. I was in Westborne and Branksome this morning and there are large numbers of beautiful trees there which are allowed to grow to maturity without being butchered. If the ones in Victoria Avenue and at the station are such a danger that they need to be uglified why not remove them completely and plant new ones? Mature trees, proper big ones that is, make a huge positive contribution to the appearence of the town but a row of giant limbless stumps?
If they are a danger why is every other large tree in the land not lopped just in case it falls over?
Has anyone checked out the Swanage Town Council website? Here are a few things that are wildly out of date, there must be more!! apparently, under Disability Info, Randalls still exists in Station Road and Emmanuel Baptist Church still has a step, long gone. Electric wheelchair hire is available in Wareham at St Johns Hill. Under Churches they should be aware that the Brethren Chapel closed several years ago. What else is wrong, out of date and or misleading? Have a look and see!
Why is the Mowlem not a membership organisation run by a committee elected by the members?
When the outgoing Swanage Urban District Council set it up as a semi-secret society all it cared about was its childish obsession with preventing the new District Council owning assets in Swanage.
Isn't it about time the trustees got their act together and modernised the way it is organised instead of running it as a personal empire?
Like every other organisation here it is so inward looking it is in danger of disappearing up its own.....and they are so pleased with themselves!

Latest Council Policy re Wheelie Bins
Letter from council states "Council policy links wheelie bin provision to permanent residents not to visitors"
Can the council really ignore the fact that visitors have rubbish? Can they really ignore the fact that maybe 10/12 people may rent a house/flats in the town and not allow this house/flat an extra bin just because there is only one registered owner? Seems theres going to be a lot of smelly rubbish laying around next summer.
Oh no, I forgot. The holidaymakers are going to compost their rubbish!
Richard Sutherland says:
Re: Purbeck Bins- Illegal and illogical?
I have reason to believe that the recent changes to the bins and waste collection arrangements in Purbeck may be illegal.
When I lived in London I was involved in a Tenants Association. They fought the Council and Housing Association who colluded to demolish storage belonging to the properties. This was replaced by large bin stores. I assume for the same reason as Purbeck i.e. reduce collection frequency/cost.
They got Counsels opinion but could not afford an injunction or legal review. Their Counsels opinion was unequivocal. I do not have the law in font of me but it could be summarised:
1. Local Authorities have no legal right to impose a form of bins on people. The requirement is for a suitable container. I believe this may at one time have been to save Councils from an expense they would prefer not to have.
2. Collections need to be adequate and I would strongly argue that at least in some cases they are not, and this is where the lack of logic starts to show up.
Same bin for a one person flat as for a five person house? Totally insufficient recycling space in green box. Result. Weekly tip trip negating any environmental benefit from my recycling, and also carrying domestic waste in my car. Ergo the collections are not adequate, are illogical and probably illegal.
It si not untypical for Local Authority lawyers not to be properly versed and not to refer up some decisions. Added to the normal SNAFU nature of local authority contracting, we have a near cartel of contractors. As was pointed out the net result of weak penalty clauses and lack of real competition means that the Councils cab get hamstrung with ‘rubbish’ contractors.
All in all a jolly fine mess, and where do our savings show up. Perhaps less money wasted on Holiday parks in this area, and more attention to detail on services?
Anyone go to the hearing the other day at the Purbeck House Hotel, about Councillor Wheeldon's conduct as a district councillor? I gather this is about using foul language (calling council offcials f****** w ******* and a*******s) and also not declaring her official interest at private meetings.
