Why "self contained"? It is a meaningless term. In any case if what you want is for more services to be provided locally then ask for a lot more than 900 new homes. Increasing the population by 50% would be a start.

Purbeck District Council want Swanage to be self-contained. They want nobody to leave the town, they want everything that anyone needs to be contained within the town. So that would be a football stadium, shopping mall, hospital comples, container port, airport, the lot really. So 900 houses is just the start. By 2050 Swanage will be bigger than Bournemouth, and everyone will be happy!

PDC's view does not seem to be shared by DCC who have a lamentable record of trying to remove service provision from Swanage. Pity we cannot have some joined up thinking but that is out of fashion. in fact its a bit rich of PDC to make such a claim having placed themselves in Wareham forcing their Swanage based staff to commute. Now that systems are computer based they could open an office here easily enough. I am always impressed by the fact that as far as the municipal mind is concerned a mile from Swanage towards Wareham is a great deal shorter than a mile in the other direction that Wareham folk would have to travel is services were based here.

In case anyone is wondering about the structure of the meeting on Thursday, I understand there will be an introduction/briefing of where we are are now and some of the issues, then thrown open to discussion, sharing some representation forms, and see where it goes from there. Probably over well before 8, but just in case the discussion gets interesting, won't be chucked out.

Hang on who is organising this? I presumed it was PDC and was going to attend, but if it just the lynching mob from Herston I'll probably go to Stevie Love's anniversary do in the Bar7even instead! I ask these people whose green field their house was built on?
