Moaning minnies?

The contributors to this blog clearly think they could make a better job of running the town and district than the present incumbents. Perhaps they would like to offer themselves for election as the anonymous party. Just think of the platform they could run on. All public assets to be sold off. No strangers to be let into town. Anyone suspected of vandalism to be fed to the sharks. All untidy buildings to be demolished. Autobahns to be constructed linking all points. Complusory opening of post offices and posh restaurants (privately owned only). What next? A short military campaign against the hill people of Langton and Worth Matravers perhaps.

Wonder who this 'anonymous' might be? Sounds like it could be a councillor...who also thinks the post Office should not have been opened...ideas anyone?

What a marvelous idea! But just leave out the war on the hill people. Indeed all those this side of Corfe. The other side of Corfe are savages anyway.

I'll go alomg with that, now where's me light machine gun?

Home rule for the Purbecks? Yes for sure! Any one up for a grockle hunting day?

Could use some volunteer beaters tp flush them out.

No, this anon is not a council member. Neither do I think the postoffice should not be open. I was just peeved at the way people who contribute to this blog prefer to avoid acquainting themselves with the facts before offering their views.

There has been no shortage of perverse decisions from both pdc and stc over the years, there is no doubt of that, but as councillors need the skin of a rhino to take the criticism, a bum made of cast iron to sit through all those meetings and the boredom tolerance of a saint it is not surprising that vision and brain power are well down the list of requirements.

The whole point of a blog is to be able to brainstorm ideas, speak anomalously, and irreverently if necessary. Well done Mr. Moderator!

I love the idea of a Moaning Minnies Party.
Did you all know that this site is linked to Virtual Swanage so any holidaymakers checking us out can read about how everyone wants them to stay away.
Luckily there is no way we will show up on the STC site as it was last updated in 1943
I'm now off to see if I can help the Somerfields refit as I cant stand shopping the Coop anymore!

I'm sorry to hear Charlie feels a little deflated at the prospect of moving to Swanage. This site can only reflect a few opinions of those who a/ know about it and b/want to say something. It's not a scientific poll or anything, and can't claim to represent Swanage as a whole. My own feeling is that those who complain about 'grockles' probably refer to the worst behaviour of the worst sort of person - people who can be found anywhere. Some no doubt would prefer the place to be a secret island just for long-term residents. But many welcome visitors both as a source of income that helps provide amenities for all residents and as an infuson of vitality into the community. But I can only speak for myself. I am glad that so many friends, old and new, like coming to Swanage - saves me having to travel to them! (Perhaps we should think of 'incomers' as meaning 'people who bring income ').

Don't worry Charlie. I moved here in July and though there is a certain underlying hatred of grockles for taking parking places and filling our beaches, I think its a pride thing. My family has been accepted and we are now well involved in town life, loads of friends. Soaking it all up and loving it.

With all the negative comments posted here about “grockles” and the general view which seems to posted that Swanage should only have “Local People” in the town we have removed the links to this site from Virtual Swanage as we don’t want to put off all the potential visitors from coming to this town and using the various amenities that are here for the only people who bring money into the town.

For more info on “grockles” have a look at www.grockles.co.uk, at least people in Devon seem to have a sense of humor on this subject.

I fail to understand Virtual Swanage's decision to remove links to Swanageview - this site, for the reasons that it's full of negative anti-grockle rhetoric. I don't see this wave of hatred reflected in this forum and being something of an ex-grockle myself I'm fairly receptive to such sentiments. There are comments on all sorts of subjects here and it's an excellent forum for discussing issues in the town.

The odd thing about sniping at outsiders and tourists is that most of the population of Swanage came from somewhere else and live here because they choose to. Most of the real locals were ethnically cleansed away to Herston decades ago. Fact is Swanage as we know it was invented by George Burt for tourists and incomers. Before that it was a grubby little village up the High Street somewhere.
