School's out

Does anybody own the local 12 year olds or are they like the lost boys? They always seem to be around smoking, spitting e.t.c. They make the town look messy. Somebody must know who they are? Anyway they're very bored and take it out on my street otherwise known to them as smokers alley (Institute Road). The police are aware so to avoid them getting asbo's if anyone knows their parents tell them they need activities. By the way our local binman has hurt his back hence why our alley looks like Beirut so if anyone knows a binman my wheelie needs emptying its full of maggots.

When i was 12, I spent the summer holidays riding a motorbike round a friends private field but with all the do-gooders now saying you cant do this or that, perhaps they feel the only thing they can do is loiter round the town centre.

total lack of respect for authority, right from grandparents and parents, to put it bluntly lots of them are scum, they vandalise and threaten all and sundry and its not a case of nothing to do theres plenty its a case of god help this country.....

Anonymous said...

Bring back national service? That would keep them off the streets for a while.

Anonymous said...

What I don't get is they're twelve, they're at middle school, they are dressed as chavs. What do their parents think they're up to for 6 weeks of the holidays. It will all end in arson or worse.

It could be that the parents just dont care what their kids are up to when they are out of the house/flat/etc.

Its not like the police are ever about to catch the chavs doing anything wrong, and if they did it would be too much paperwork to do anything about it.

This is a very strange thread. Some of it is exactly the same as John Mowlem's grumpy musings about Swanage youth way back in the 1850s. Plus de la change.......

Anonymous said...

what, exactly, is a chav ? is there a female version of this species ?

A chavette?

For the definition of a chav go to http://www.chavscum.co.uk/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chav

Isn't Smokers alley Commercial RD.. or is that muggers corner !!

Had a few young teenagers threaten me down there one afternoon.. I could sense the police were busy so I encouraged them not to do it..
I left the lane feeling happy that I had convinced them to think twice about what they do !!

30 years ago us Punks frightened the hell out of the little old ladies of Swanage. When we got really bored we'd call the police and tell them a riot was going on just to get them to chase us. I reckon we had more class. Modern kids have no sense of style.

Anonymous said...

When I read these comments, I just wonder what you lot were like when you were kids?

Little angels? dressed in your Sunday best? Come on! we could hardly be called angels, for we got up to every damn thing.

Perhaps you were all a load of Goody Goodies?

Though some how I doubt it

typical reply eh DL let me see ringing door bells compared to today spitting on at people, skinny dipping and rocking the boats compered to drinking cans of beer pinching apples toady large groups threating people riding bikes on the rec today setting fire to the toilet blocks, no mate im sorry the chavs who fequent the high st and areas are scum dross morons lazy good for nothing pieces of c*** and some ( and i said some) of the parents are no better.
P.S I was no angel I had fun but compared to this scum I was the pope

Anonymous said...

On a point of information, Mr Moderator, the young man who set fire to the toilet block afew years ago was not a chav. Lets be accurate in our namme calling.

Anonymous said...

You may have had enough money to afford bathing costumes....We certainly were not....bare buff bathing mate...
But is nice to know you rich folk can afford such luxuries.
Dancing Ledge.

Anonymous said...

was it you then who set fire to the toilets? also i did not mention names just a comment but then again as the saying goes if the cap fits! and i said skinny dippin so i had no cossy either. perhaps the influx of chavs has come from the new influx of outsiders? just a thought!

Anonymous said...

No, it was not me who set fire to the toilets. I thought we all knew the names of the bad boys round town a few years ago. Aren't they in exile now?

We get waves of youth culture and every time we are told they are worse than anything thats ever happened before. Perhaps the Mowlem could show "The Wild One." Thats the 1953 film in which two rival motorcycle gangs terrorize a small town after one of their leaders is thrown in jail to remind us that theres nothing new to this.

and Clockwork Orange

Anonymous said...

Clockwork Orange is another antiquity. The novel was published in 1962 when some of those aghast at todays youth were young themselves. The film leaves out the last chapter in which Alex decides he should grow up and become a dad bit reflects that if he has a son he will probably get into as much trouble as his daf. Can't help thinking theres a lesson in there.

clock work orange ! your winding me up

Anonymous said...

I'm warming to the idea of national service for 12 year olds. When they come out they can clutter up the Legion bar instead of the town centre.

Anonymous said...

One of the so called bad boys (boy being the word) was actually killed being hard !

Good and bad in young and old too. What huge egos are displayed by some critics! The world isn't just for you - whoever you are. Do yourself and the rest of the world a favour - consider just one aspect of your attitude towards Life today and change your opinion. You weren't perfect when you were young, and I doubt that you are today.

Whatever happened to empathy?

Many people throughout history have suggested sterilisation as a way of controlling the populace - but what gives anybody the right to make such decisions?

Anonymous said...

just a thought, what sort of life must you be living if you think that standing outside the White Lotus etc is fun, or cool?
Why not show simple human compassion and wonder what we can do to provide these people with a better view of life so that they'll do other things that we would consider more acceptable.

Anonymous said...

For decades Swanage marketed itself to tourists as a paradise for brainless morons and naturally enough a proportion of them thought it was so wonderful that they settled here. Their offspring are equally brain dead and clutter up the town centre at night.

Anonymous said...

well said about the parents and the brain dead morons, im fed up with people saying its up to me/us to provide for them theres the beach, swimming, fishing, skate park, parks to play footie cricket etc even may I suggest JOBS wow sorry that was well over the top. lazy scum bags they are.

As this conversation has been dominated by 12 yr olds, perhaps we should send then up chimneys - oh bu!!er, our standard of living has risen so much there are hardly any left, I mean what are we 'sposed to do, cut off the gas supply? Re-open the quarries? Stop buying our milk and newspapers in the Supermarkets - why Super?
Now lets look to the future - 4 years time, our schooling has let them down, sorry, the lazy little bu!!ers haven't taken advantage of our incredibly expensive education sysytem, they live in Swanage, they have poor education, they're going to be 'yobs', unless they get some help from somewhere.
Where's that help - Wareham at best, Poole or B'mouth is realistic, £6+ a day, oh, and a small matter of 2+ hours a day away.
Mind you in P&B they have reasonable cinemas, etc.

Anonymous said...

what a load of tosh the education offerd around here is good enough for most to cope with life, agreed jobs here are not the best but most of the little darlings aint locals anyway so why did they move here? no mate wake up smell the coffee 80% of em are lazy lying good for nothing scum. why should hard working people pay for them when they dont even help themselves again a product of a wasted england.

Anonymous said...

I work in education, young people tend to split into 3 groups, the good uns who'll go to uni and probably never return, the middle 1/3 a mixture of Uni, college or family firm types, who'll do fine, here or in the conurbation, and then the 'other third', a mixture of the above, some who may have biological problems - 'specific learning disabilites', and a very small minority who are the 'problems'.
They are the ones who hang around the centre. They are the ones who lack the: money, imagination, expectations, standards, whatever, to do something constructive.
The vast majority of young people are great.

Anonymous said...

perhaps more are good than bad debateable yr in yr out, but the bad ones expect us to do everything for them and im sorry to say that aint life is it, go out tonight and see whos hanging about the lower high street it will shock you go on get out from in front of the tele and go there now 1040 pm but be affraid very affraid..... as i said before what about sterilization?

Anonymous said...

Someone is either smoking too much of the stuff that makes you paranoid or they slip into a parallel universe on their way to the town centre. There is nothing debatable about the fact that in the real world the overwhelming majority of teenagers are well behaved. A tiny number have the sort of problems referred to by an earlier poster. Fortunately the way life is lots of help is available to them and their families and most grow uo to be normmal. Clearly things are different in the strange parallel universe someone enters There must be another parallel universe in which all the young are beaten into an obsequious and fawning attitude to their elders. Life in this counter reality must be very odd indeed.

Anonymous said...

yes that universe is called lower high street, and perhaps its only 20/30% of em but it is there, go look please. Im not beating any of them I go watch the young fire spinners on the beach they are great kids do charity stuff and carnival do I brow beat them no one of my familly actually gave the local circus school some money to buy equipment, but im affraid sir thers that %who are hell bent on whatever reallity check please, have the guts mate go ask tghe local police they will tell you that this is not a parrell universe this is reality.
P.S where do you live about 2 miles outside town ?

Anonymous said...

Don't understand this at all, I'm a namby pamby liberal who has spent many an evening, both pissed and sober, in town. Groups of young people, loads ov em, appalling behaviour? If someone 'annoys' them, mebbie. Just walk on past, treat them as equals, good god, even talk to them - not at them, and no problems.
I live less than a mile from the centre but have to walk through it to get there.

Anonymous said...

treat as equals ? so spitting at me shall i spit back? what the F888 you looking at a%%hole shall i return the phrase, I can walk past and I do ignore them but old people cant neither can some of the other youngsters who feel threatened when they are around town, bottom line is its down to personal responsibility. answer me this what earhtly reason do they have for being out at 0040hrs on a wet thurs night? average age 14 none i suspect therfore their presence is intimadating to lots of people.why dont you ask some bussiness owners what they thinking of these people hanging about might shock you what they would say.

Anonymous said...

The fact that you have provoked a response of: 'what the F888 you looking at a%%hole', suggests to me that the young people have interpreted something about your behaviour that made them feel threatened so they responded in the only way they know how.
I'm not condoning their behaviour, but it's a fact of life, most of these people are very lonely and frightened little people, BUT, if treated with what they consider to be respect, they respond in the same way.
It's not our view that matters, it's the way in which our behaviour is interpreted that is the key.
I've worked with some of this countries most damaged/worst behaved kids. To get through to them, to be able to influence them, you have to get onto their level - that's not the level of their behaviour, that's their level.
The young people of Swanage are cute little puppies compared to many that I've worked with.

Anonymous said...

how dare you suggest its my demeanour that causes this thats typical i was with my wife just walking past, did not, repeat did not make eye contact, wake up dear friend and smell the coffee, so treat them with what they call respect ehhh so use the F word spit on the pavement hurl abuse at all and sundry, no way perhaps respect should come from them, reminds of a story told to me, a guy is badly beaten and left on the rd side a rabbi walks past sees him and crosses over & carries on walking, a priest sees him does the same crosses over and ignores him, he is stll left there in a pool of blood when a social worker walks by she stoops down and says the person who did this to you needs help and she walks away, very apt in this case I feel. did you visit lower high st last night at midnight I did and there were certainly no little puppies about loud mouthed groups of youths maybe but no bloody puppies!

Anonymous said...

Don't waste your time getting worked up over swearing. All the kids these days sound like old soldiers. Have you never gone past a first school at playtime?

As for respect, I do wonder whether these kids have ever had a conversation with anyone who can earn respect. It takes idiots to produce idiots after all.

By the way, what are you doing in the lower High Street in the middle of the night so often? The rest of us have better things to do than go chav spotting at midnight.

Oh, and less of this "how dare you" and "dear friend" pompous nonsense please if you don't want us to think you're some ridiculous stereotype. We have been asked to avoid stereotypes but its hard to take you seriously when you sound like some character sent up by P G Wodehouse. Then again perhaps its all a wind up and you are some crafty 18 year old taking the piss.

Anonymous said...

im going about my legal bussiness at that time and you or someone made an accusation that I and my wife imflamed the situation by "looking " at them and to be honest thats an insult, you are obviously all tucked up in bed and except that disgusting behaviour of this louts as the norm well i and many others dont, and by your comments, you fit the sterotype social worker to a tee, perhaps one day I will tell you of the pure cr*p i hvae gone through in the last year because of your friends, till then its you that needs to get out and see whats going on, instead of making excuses for these people, unles your one of them and your the one who can write?
I also realise that youth problems have been about for years but that does not make it any better, if swanage is so good how come CCTV is being installed and the public toilets are closed after 1900 hrs

Anonymous said...

If you weren't looking at them, how do you know that the comment was aimed at you?

Anonymous said...

An unbiased observer reading this thread and noting the way "antichav" can't resist snarling at other posters might well conclude he would be quite incapable of walking past a group of kids without making his disapproval of them obvious in some way, verbal of non-verbal.

They would also notice that he does not know the difference between an explanation and a justification and draw their own conclusions.

what ever rose tinted gloss you want to put on it, there is a fudemenatl problem with the teenagers in the lower high st. based on factual evidence from local residents businesess and police, also form my own personal experience and that of fammily members, also being involved in a court case, all the above is fact. if you dont beleive it thats up to you, as they say opinions are like a$$h&les evry one has got one. I comment on what has happened to me, perhaps if you took the time to 1) go down there over a few nights and at different times and quietly observe 2) ask the local police 3) ask local busineses 4) ask local residents 5) ask some other teens who avoid that area all tho they would like to pass thorough/use it. but no doubt you wont, I have never said all teens are bad in fact lots of em are great all I have said is there is a % who are hell bent on making peoples lives hell and from your quotes I am of the opinion (see above re everyone has one) that you accept and actually encourage their behaviour and expect the majority of honest law abiding citizens to cowtow to them. surley in society the small majority have to abide by the rules and laws set or otherwise lawless rules. and to anon 2.25 i dont make my disproval know i look straight ahead as much as possible and try to avoid them what else can I do? and where did i say i hated all chavs all i said was those in the lower high street are chavs.

Anonymous said...

If you have been misrepresenting the antics of the kids as much as you have misrepresented what other people have said in this thread I expect to find the lower High Street full of kids clad in top hat and tails and swigging champers.

Anonymous said...

The comment about your comments being 'facts' - prove it.

Unless you can do this, they're hearsay.

I spend plenty of time in town late at night, I've never had a problem - perhaps that 'proves' that there are no problems.

Anonymous said...

Oh, by the way, you still haven't answered my: if you weren't looking at them how did you know they were talking to you, post.

AND originally you said that 80% of young people were, blah blah blah

Anonymous said...

go ask the police ask the licencees ask the residents they will tell you the facts, as i said when i can discuss this i will but dont take my word for it get of your fat liberal ass and go ask the above, and yes i know they were talking to me because it was attached to a comment one which i cant say at the present. but hey you dont give a %%%% do you becuase you or your familly have not been through what i have so to put it bluntly shut your mouth until you have suufered what a member of my fammily did please go away, its obvious you support this sort of behaviour and are a member of a fammily that is one of these yobs, other wise you would not defend dross like this... perhaps if you and others stood up to this sort of behaviour we would not see so many stories in the press about violence and vadalism.
also mr moderator you criticise personal attacks but you allow people to belittle others who have suffered physical attacks to be abused by people like anon 754 so let me get this straight you are condoning violence and abuse?

Anonymous said...

hey have you ridden the a$$ of mr roy vassey he was the original poster about the dross and included the words spitting and asbos

Anonymous said...

Oh dear, the 11.54 post, oh dear, oh dear.

fat liberal ass! Indeed.

My family haven't been throug what yours has been through, oh dear, oh dear - do you know them?

Of course my family haven't had the same experiences as yours, now add vice - versa.

Still a Liberal. Bye

Anonymous said...

What exactly have these kids done? Royston Vasey only mentioned spitting and swearing which although churlish are hardly major offences. None of us have the slightest idea. Could it be that they don't suffer fools gladly?
