The square

is it true that at mondays councill meeting one councillor actually stood up and BLAMED the motorbike fraternity for leaking oil in the square and thats what makes it look a mess, and not the chip shops or the councill inability to clean it regularly?

Strange but true: perhaps she meant the bikes that park on the cobbles by the quay...

Perhaps the answer is to take over the local conservative party. This is not as daft as it sounds. They are so stuck for council candidates that they invite people with no connection to toryism to stand on their ticket.

There was a lot of fuss a few years ago in the labour party about "bed sit infiltrators" who turned out to be young activists in run down inner city labour party branches who were not content with the gerontocracy running things. Is it time the same thing happened to the conservatives? If they cannot find a way of connecting to the real world this could happen.

please could you tell us when the next meeting is sounds more comical than only fools and horses, some one said it was like going to the circus is that true?

I (partly) take back my earlier comment: there were half a dozen bikes there last night -- but I don't think they're the fundamental cause of the mess in the Square.

Next full council meeting is September 25th at 7pm, beginning with public participation time. As to being a circus..I don't think that's quite fair. Some of the procedural matters that the law requires can seem silly, but just as silly to councillors sitting there as to anyone looking on. But come along. Have your say. Even stand as a councillor in the next elections.

were they in the square or actually parked on the rd? also being realistic would bikes leak that much oil?, also put a monkey up with a tory rossete on and it would get elected, put a decent indeppendant candidate up and they stand NO chance. so whats the bloody point.

Having gone along to Monday's meeting I also witnessed the ramblings of the councillor referred to in the original posting. Worryingly she is, I think, also a JP. However, ridiculous as her comments are, it is worth making the effort to attend these meetings if only to remind some of those elected to make decisions on our behalf that this is precisely why they hold their positions!

My auntie in Dorchester told me she had seen something in the paper about traffic wardens being too frightened to come into swanage at night without protection.
What is this about? is it something from the same meeting?

probably because of all those OAPs who park in the loading bays and think they are exempt from the law
