A351 closure

THAT'S PLANNING:
I note in todays Advertiser that the main road between Swanage and Wareham, Sandford Road is to be closed off, with long diversions, during October and November. ? November? Is that not the time the Sandbanks Ferry also closes for it's Refit?

The ferry will not be off for a refit this year (will next year, though).

and they have to re-build the slipway.

Could be off for 3 months.

This lengthy roadworks could cause a major headache for everyone in Swanage and Corfe who travel towards Poole and do not use the ferry.
There seems to have been little or no consultation with the public.
It does not appear to have been mentioned at PDC meetings.
I have not heard of it being brought up at any town council meeting here.
It is not just the good people of Sandford who are going to be caused problems and not only those fifteenthousand or so inhabitants of the isle ofPurbeck, but anyone who commutes between Weymouth and Poole or has business in this area.
DCC should be coming in for considerable criticism, not for undertaking the work if it is necessary, but for not communicating this in advance and consulting on what is the most appropriate way of undertaking it as well as giving considerable advance warning to residents and businesses who may be affected.
How much does Dorset spend on its publicity section.
One ponders on just what the money goes. Self-congratulation in the main, I suspect.

I tried to find information on the Dorset County Council website about these road works.
If you click on the a road works link, and Purbeck, you are informed that there will be a road clusre for a sewer in Sandy Lane at Upton.
Sandy Lane, doubtless an important road for those who live there, is not a conduit for approaching 30,000 vehicles, many of them heavy, as is the busy road through Sandford and North Wareham.
Where indeed was the input of those county councillors for the Isle of Purbeck whose constituents could well find their commute to work so considerably disrupted for such an extended period.
Have Hiett, Lovell, Budd and co had any input into the programming of this work.
Has anyone.
