What is the latest news regarding the timetable for the railway to be joined up? I thought there was some deadline that had to be met. Is this still on course?

I just wonder who is going to run the train service between Swanage and wareham, and who will be responsible for the upkeep of the track etc? also how much would it cost to travel and ia an hour to Wareham worth it?

good questions, we need to know a lot more before supporting this cause. what is the demand for this service within the community? i was a daily traveller in the days of steam. the line could not have paid due to the small number of people using the service. would it be any different today? we are talking about a service that ought to be determined based on need and cost. The railway is an excellent tourist attraction at present and a boon to purbeck but that is not the same as a public service transport facility.

First of all I’m fully in support of restoring the link to Wareham. However representing this as restoring it for the community is a bit much. It’s being restored for a few steam buffs. A continuous loop of two buses Swanage to Wareham is what is needed plus trains to and from Waterloo at least until midnight. If the service is to be useful then ban cars from entering Swanage. What a marketing point to attract people! Like so many continental towns have done! Dam it we can’t even be brave enough to close the Shore Road.

What? Ban all cars and just have a loop of 2 buses. How would the massive queues for buses containimng visitors and locals alike be a marketing dream attracting people to the town? I suspect no one would want to come and visit or live here. Lets embrace the 21st century and make it as easy as possible for visitors to reach the town (Corfe bypass). Then have a park and ride at the top of Victoria Avenue and YES - close the Shore Road to make an attractive child friendly and safe seafront. SWanage needs to move with the times or die without the dreaded over commercialisation you can experience in Bournemouth or Poole Quay.

So, why is Centre Parcs so popular. By Passes, more cars, think this poster is moving back with the times.
