Make things happen in Swanage

Community Plan update

A successful first 'workshop' meeting was held in the salubrious surroundings of The Purbeck House Hotel. Over glasses on wine, a full house of 64 people gathered to discuss which issues they felt were most important from the thousands of comments gathered in the consultancy phase. Next meeting is Tuesday 15th, 6.15pm for 6.30pm at Purbeck House Hotel. Then another at 2.15 for 2.30 at The Mowlem Community Room on Saturday 19th.

Sad that no one under age of 35 or so to represent the young people of swanage. Perhaps they'll flood in for the next meetings - tell any you know.

Another good meeting on Tuesday 15th, fewer people (around 32) but even some under 30!

Your last chance to get involved in this phase of the process is 2.15 for 2.30 on Saturday 19 March in the Community Room at the Mowlem...

And 57 people turned up on Saturday afternoon to make their contributions.

Over the course of the three meetings, 19 new people have also volunteered to get more involved in some way, to help drive things forward.

All work will be collated and used to identify tasks. Information will then be published/made available for all to see.

BUT.. maybe its like Henry Ford said: "if I'd asked people what they wanted, they'd have told me a faster horse"

Inevitably, asked what they want the people of Swanage repied more of the nice things, less of the nasty. The tragedy is that the town and district councils and the Regional Development Agency probably think that is regeneration and will find some money to tidy the place up and pat themselves on the back for a job well done. Some more fairy lights perhaps?

If they want regeneration why was the money this exercise has absorbed not spent on getting a competent economist to find ways of boosting the local economy and on other people who know what they are doing finding ways of improving the environment etc?
