Hard Copy?

Bill Storer asks: "I thought recent posts have been interesting and comments lively. It's a pity the site isn't shared by more people. Is there any merit in doing a periodic summary that could be printed in the Gazette or published as a newsletter which could be made available from the Library or Town hall? Perhaps comments from STC could be included."

It could be a good idea to ask Swanage Online Forum if they would be interested in amalgamating the two sites so Swanage had just one blog site. Their forum is overcomplicated and messy (but many users), so it would be an opportunity to set up a really good forum site with the best of each. I'm sure the forums are read by Councillors. A hard copy is a mad idea, but the occasional letter in the paper to raise awareness of the forum would be a thought. The RSS feed needs sorting out.

Hmm
1/ RSS feed: if ayone wants to help me sort it out, please do!And any other ideas. I'm the first to admit to being a complete amateur in this area.
2/ Publicity/hard copy: if anyone wants to do this, please go ahead
3/ Merge with swanageonline: interesting thought which I have wondered about before. When I set this blog up (nearly 3 years ago now)it was because there seemed to be a need for somewhere to exchange views and promote information, as we could not rely on the newspaper. Then swanageonline started a forum. But I think they do have different characters. I guess I think I would like to keep them both going independently as long there seems to be life in both of them.Or rather, keep this going for that reason..

"Their forum is overcomplicated and messy (but many users)" says Anonymous.
One man's complication is another man's attraction!
Have you considered that what doesn't attract you particularly does attract their users?
Have you looked at MySpace? It's a nightmare to older people but attracts youngsters.
There are two forums about Swanage that work. By amalgamating the two, you could end up with one forum that doesn't work for anybody!
Never forget: The camel is a horse designed by a committee!

By overcomplicated I meant the links to new posts don't take you direct to the new comment but to the first page of the original post -so i should have said complicated to navigate. By messy I meant the stupid cartoon characters you have asigned as your photo instead of being able to upload a picture of yourself or your dog or whatever.

I don't understand the reference to cartoon characters....

The problem with this forum is that contributors can't post up pictures or working links.

Hmm .. Yes I don't think this allows 'Comments' to post photos, but I can as a new subject. You can send pics to me [mail@mikehadley.net] but I can't guarantee to put them up.
As to links, I think sometimes they work; but at least you can copy and paste into your browser. This blogger stuff is free after all, so we shouldn't expect too much!

The home page has been modified to link to the last page of a topic for new replies, but we often found that people would want to read an entire thread from page 1 than try to read it backwards.

Anyone can change the "stupid cartoon characters" to their own photo which can be hosted on any of the thousands of free photo hosts online. The profile page for registered users has the option to use one of our "stupid cartoon characters" or link to their own photo.

The thing with any website is there are always loads of people to criticizes what the site owner has but as soon as they are asked to help they go very quiet
