I'll say it again and again and again - there is and there will be no extra money for a new secondary school in Swanage - and you will not receive sufficient support for a 'new academy' school either (if indeed Gove's 'brainchild' ever gets born) from the people of Swanage.

Swanage has been, and will continue to be, overlooked by DCC because of its isolated position.

Has the railway secured its 3 million pounds yet?

The middle school has fewer children in each year 5 group that joins them each September. The number of classes per year group has dropped over time. I have heard that there are some classes in some first schools that are quite small(not empty). Is it possible to get hold of the new reception class numbers for September I wonder? This would tell you how full the classes are.

Seems to be the parents of Swanage weren't doing their bit eight or so years ago!

Not just 8 years ago! Parents are still not reproducing in large enough numbers. Infact Swanage First is half the size that it once was. 10 years ago it had 2 classes per year .....then 1 and a half.....now 1. Similar picture across the schools it seems. Hence the problem of surplus places.

Swanage is at the end of the county's line of interest. There will be no school, and yes, in a few years, there will be no hospital unless the wrinkly brigade kick up a fuss.

Swanage has been designated a town for crumbly oldies, not young families. Old people appear to have no voice with DCC/PDC. They are here to bring their money, spend it, and............

Families trapped here (it is a loverly place for kiddies) have to accept that they are not in 'the plan' for Swanage. Oldies bring income to PDC/DCC; families suck it up. Got it?

Swanage is a genteel Bridlington.

The loss of Swanage Middle School and their Head Teacher, David Pratten, from the local education scene will be the real tragedy of all this. In particualr future year 5 and 6 pupils will miss out terribly in a two tier set up.

This was dressed up as a constructive consultation process but the reality is that it is nothing but a crude cost cutting measure. Thanks for nothing DCC.

No doubt the 11 Councillors who voted against it included all the Purbeck Councillors. Thanks for trying.

Where do we go from here? Apart from Wareham that is.
