Doing something to celebrate or commemorate this would be too forward thinking for many in this town.

Sadly, you are correct, except for the schools. They may do something.

In case anyone thinks otherwise, Swanage will be bypassed by the Olympics. Swanage is not on the road to Weymouth. Don't get excited about it.

I believe the torch IS coming to Swanage.

And as for "Doing something to celebrate or commemorate this would be too forward thinking for many in this town." you could always initiate something yourself...and/or liaise with the Swanage councillor who is trying to do something for the Olympics (I think it's Cindy Harris, on cinners12@yahoo.co.uk ).

So the children of this town will put us adults to shame then. This won't probably happen again , and would be nice to see us do something. Maybe shutting off the town as it comes through would be an idea ;)

Dave, when will the torch be here. Yes it would be great to do something. Not heard anything about this though until you mentioned it.

Has there been something in the local papers about this ??

My first post came with link to Bournemouth echo , now it's hit the BBC ;) Any news is good news. Something to think about though , could or would this tie with the carnival in the summer ? An olympic theme perhaps? Hmmmmmm.

If you look on the BBC map, there are a couple of local people that have been put forward to carry the torch. Well deserved people who have done a lot for this community. Thanks Dave for highlighting this.

Can't find a link to this page about the people who have been put forward. ;(

So I hear it's been announced by the council that the torch is too pass through the town and stop off for lunch;)

I understand that there are rules and regulations that stop commercial enterprises getting involved so that prevents some of the Purbeck organisations paticipating in celebrations.

Well I hear that the man who used to shout out around town about the Market is to carry the touch. Congratulations that man:)
