Disabled parking

Disabled Parking. What a complete farce the disabled parking is here in Swanage. Firstly, in the town the disabled area is outside the bank, everyone stops there and pops in the bank, “because I shall only be a minute or two”. The other area…. by the Mowlem, is often full, without a single disabled person parked there. Then we have the huge lorries trying to get up the back of the store to unload. Some of the disabled badge holders look remarkably young and fit, we have painters and decorators vans, delivery vans, and some disabled that have a quite jaunty spring in their step. That is further complicated by Swanage Councils refusal to let disabled folk park for free. Not even those that war disabled, that are unable to walk, through their war service. The Council is only too happy to enjoy the freedom that the war disabled afforded them, but does not want to help those that paid the price to have a reasonable life. Now that is a shame, and Swanage council should change it immediately. It is easy to recognise the war pensioners, their road tax disc has “disabled” on it.By the way, I have never seen any traffic wardens sorting out the cheats. The sooner the Government brings in the Thousand pound fine, for misuse of a disabled parking area, the better. Apparently it is in use in other parts of Britain, and it is reputed to work wonders. The blue badge is issued to those “unable to walk” or “virtually unable to walk” How many badge holders do you see that fulfil that criteria? Thing is, no one wants to penalise anyone. But it seems that today the blue badge has lost any respect, for folk know it is abused, and very often.
It is about time that the fit and healthy used abit of common when parking and leave the disabled places for those that are in desperate need of them.
